Alrighty then first an explanation of my rating. I give it a three because yeah it is great if you have more than two people who frequently play the ps2 and have at least a couple of ps2 games that can handle multiplayer ability. You should make your own judgement based on this above but beware of a few problems that I am about to clear up that bump it down to a 3. Don't worry these problems DONT include the whining like other reviewers saying its tooooo expensive and they dont have many games to play multiplayer. That is opinionated. I am here to tell you the facts based on my encounter with websites and my own multitap received on Christmas.
Alright number one. Based on sites, the multitap for PLAYSTATION ONE does NOT I repeat does not play ps2 games. You may use it in your playstation 2 but it can only play the playstation 1 games and vice versa with the playstation 2 multitap. Number 2. There are a couple DIFFERENT TYPES of the Playstation 2 Multitap that you may need to look at. If you have been good adults, boys, girls, and teens you should have kept your playstation 2 manual that came in the box. It will tell you the number/ serial number of the multitaps you may use. It may give you a second party's multitap too but stick with the good old sony quality. [...] There is a multitap out there that I received for christmas for example that says its for the series 7,000 PS2 (meaning the slimmer version that just came out about end of NOV 2004) it says it does not work with some other series (forgot I returned it but the series it was talking about was the older fat PS2). So make sure you buy the right one pertaining to the type and serial of your PS2. The number for the serial of mine I found ON the ps2 in case you need to find it. To find the right kind you may need to keep checking amazon and your local video game or toy retailers but based on my experiences (I own the old PS2) I have been finding it hard to find the old multitap it is always gone and Best Buy (where my mom got mine which we returned bewause it was for the 7000 series) only carries the 7000 series Multitap in which a store clerk informed us of and is the only one online at Bestbuy.com. So I hope this review has helped and if it hasn't just make sure to kindly ask a store clerk about it before buying. Best Buy and Toys R Us clerks in the gaming department know what they're talking about for the most part if you need assistance.

A must have for the PS2,

First off, lets clear up one thing. The original PSX Multi-Tap DOES work on the PS2. Unfortunately, you can only use it for original PSX games like Crash Team Racing. You just have to plug it into the First Player Controller Port, not the second. Then, plug your memory card into it and, voila. That said, if you have any intention of playing any form of PS2 Multi Player games, you have no choice but to buy this item. I have FIFA 2001 and its a blast with four players. My only reason for only giving it 4 stars is that Sony had no right to release the system without Four Controller ports. That was just a blatant excuse to make more money by forcing us to put out extra money for this device. And unfortunately, they'll succeed because only hermits and people with the disposition of a rabid rotweiler don't own at least one Multi-Player game. Shame on Sony for this blatant slap in the face of players and their pockets. And shame on me for not checking enough, in the rush, to find out that my original multi-tap wasn't going to work with the new games. Especially on a system that was SUPPOSED to be completely backward compatible. Kudos to them, however, for making me more buyer aware. You won't catch me like that a second time.

Must Have for Multiplayer...,

First off, let me clear up that unlike most PlayStation accessories, the original multitap for the PSX won't work with the PlayStation 2. That said, it's better this ways anyways. The multitap for the PS2 is extremly cool looking, and very useful for the games. Sony, for whatever reason, decided only to include two controller ports on the PS2. This was probably done so we all would have to buy a Multitap, and therefore spend more money. Asides from that, this thing is amazing. It looks extremely cool, and it's been described by ign.com as mini-me. If you get two of them, then you can have up to eight controllers and eight memory cards pluged in at once. This is great for multiplayer games, such as Timesplitters and NBA Live 2001 when it comes out. The only negative aspect about it is that the cord, which attaches the Multitap to the PS2, is only 3 inches long. This is ok if you use your PS2 in the horizontal position, but if you use it in the vertical position then the cord is not long enough for the Multitap to lay flat on the floor, which leaves it hanging from the PS2. That said, this is a must have accessory that anyone who plans on playing a multiplayer game needs.

The PS2 is boasting with 4 player games, and this is the only device that can take advantage of all this. A must have for PS2 software that supports up to four players. The best part is that it is so small! It is a little bigger than a standard computer mouse, so it won't waste space. The only downer on this one is that it only works for PS2 games, not PS1 games. So, if you want to play four player with PS1 games, get a PS1 multitap, and vice versa. All in all, a fun and excellent/reliable buy!

With the Multitap for the PS2, you can have five people play games. Most PS2 games only allow 1 or 2 players, but the few games that allow four or more make this little accessory worthwhile. With a Multitap you can store 5 memory cards. The majority of the games with Multitap capability are sports games. Some of the highest rated games that are Multitap compatible include Gauntlet Dark Legacy, NBA LIVE 2002, NHL 2002, Madden 2002, TimeSplitters, Quake 3 Arena - Revolution, ATV Off Road, Unreal Tournament, and DOA2. [...] The Multitap is not backward Compatible with PS1 games. Hopefully the price will drop and more games will be built for multiplayer. Another problem is some games require the Multitap be plugged in slot 1 or 2 specifically, requiring moving it for different games. I would only recommend getting this if you have the money, games and guests to make the most of it! It's a blast for parties or the family gatherings!

IF YOU HAVE A PS2 MORE THAN 2-3 YEARS OLD, THIS MULTITAP WON'T WORK!!
DON'T BUY IT UNLESS YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO TRY IT FIRST. THIS MULTITAP WON'T FIT ON YOUR ¨OLD¨ PS2 AND YOU WILL BE PISSED JUST LIKE ME.

This is a must have to have your friends join you in playing PS2 games, but guess what. PS games need a different multitap. Games like bomberman and Crash Team Racing need the ps1 multitap to have multiplayer functionality. ... I figure they would have made things TOTALLY backward compatible but they didn't. The PS1 adapter will plug into the PS2, but it is not suppose to work with PS2 games. You need to buy the 2 different multitaps if you intend on playing PS1 and PS2 multiplayer games on the PS2 system.

YOU NEED THIS,

This is something you need, unless you have no friends or family members. If you have any multiplayer game, you know that it is more fun when you have 4 people instead of 2. Multiplayer of first person shooters is way better with 4 people like in Red faction 2 or 007: Nightfire. It works perfectly and adds a lot of fun when you have company. And your friends won't get mad at you if they can't play.

A must have for PS2 gamers,
This review is from: Sony MULTITAP FOR PS2 (Accessory)
The PS2 Multitap lets four players play any PS2 game. If you get two, that's eight players on a single gaming system!Yes, the PS2 comes by default with only 2 controller ports. This means that, as a default system, only 2 people at a time can play on a given PS2. The multitap increases that number to 4 per port! The unit isn't that expensive, less than most games. And the reward you get when you have friends over is amazing. My personal favorite, and the reason we bought ours, is Gauntlet: Dark Legends. I am a HUGE fan of the Gauntlet series and this one was quite fun with 4 players. There are many other games that are fun with 4 players - Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, etc. Yes, you can complain that the PS2 should have had 4 ports to begin with. But it doesn't. So grab yourself a multitap and get some friends over to join in the fun!

Great for family fun!,

This review is from: Sony MULTITAP FOR PS2 (Accessory)
I bought one of these so my wife and I could play games with our 2 sons. The whole family has been playing Gauntlet Dark Legacy together and it is great! Next I tried it with Madden NFL 2002, which we had only used as a one or two player game. It adds a whole new dimension to it! I also like the fact that it is small and doesn't take up any extra room.If you want to be able to spend some time having fun with your kids doing something that they really enjoy, get this Multitap, a game that the whole family can play together and enough controllers for everyone. It might not be your idea "the ultimate" in quality family time, but its fun. And hey, isn't that what spending time with your family should be like? |
