5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, great design
I have gone through several sets of earbuds for my MP3 player, but was never really satisfied with the sound, and none of them fit securely enough to use duing any sort of activity. 1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
I purchased my original pair from SonyStyle and absolutely loved them. After about a year and a half of almost daily use, they finally gave up. I have gone through several sets of earbuds for my MP3 player, but was never really satisfied with the sound, and none of them fit securely enough to use duing any sort of activity. I decided to get myself a quality set of light weight headphones and picked up these Sony's last week. I am totally satisfied with them. The bass is much fuller than any of the earbuds I have tried, and the midrange and treble much more detailed. When playing music I have heard before it is like listening to a whole new recording. Once properly adjusted, the headphones are comfortable and secure, too, allowing me to use them while engaging in routine physical activity like running, cycling, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sounding; Fitting Headphones, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Sony Mdr-As100W Active Style Headphones (Electronics)
I got these as a present recently and let me just say that they are great! I usually prefer over-the-ear headphones, because I can't stand the sound quality and discomfort caused by in-ear headphones. However, over-the-ear headphones can be cumbersome and annoying when running or working out.
In comes the Sony MDR-AS100W. They fit my head perfectly, and create a comfortable seal over my ear canal. I love the combination of silicon ear bud combined with the more traditional Ipod earphone-like headphones that go over the ear canal. Sort of combine the bests of both designs.
As far as activity; these headphones do not move at all. Perfect for running, hiking, or working out. The short cord means you will not have an annoying wire getting in the way of your movements.
If you can find a deal on these, I definitely suggest buying them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware, September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Mdr-As100W Active Style Headphones (Electronics)
I purchased my original pair from SonyStyle and absolutely loved them. After about a year and a half of almost daily use, they finally gave up. When I went back to Sony to purchase another pair I was surprised to find that they didn't sell them anymore. I found a pair on Amazon, I didn't hesitate to order. When I received the head phones the first thing I noticed was that the box seemed worn. I opened the box and found that the plastic case for the headphones was damaged, no big deal. When I took the headphones out they didn't seem to be of the same quality of construction as my original pair. They had screws sticking out on the band where they adjusted, my original pair didn't have screws and they didn't line up properly. Not even a month and they quit. I think that these aren't what they say they are?

5.0 out of 5 stars Good choice for jogging, September 30, 2009

I purchased this as new jogging headphones, and have been happy so far (a couple months). The cord is two-piece which gives extra length and when someone tugs on it, like my cat, the cord connection breaks rather than pulling the band off my head. Comes with three rubber ear insert sizes. Overall works great and I am glad I bought it!

3.0 out of 5 stars good fit - OK sound, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Mdr-As100W Active Style Headphones (Electronics)
What I like about these is that they fit in my ears nicely, which blocks outside sounds and keeps music sounds from leaking out (all the music goes to my ears). This makes the base way better that those headphones that just sort of sit/rest in my ears (like the standard Mac headphones). It comes with 3 sizes of earbuds too. The strength of the trebble is diappointing though. The standard headphones are better on trebble. Overall I like them because they fit better but I question whether they are worth the ~$100 price. I got mine used for $30 and it was worth it - $100 though seems pricy given the poor trebble output.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best sounding and most comfortable headphones on the market, August 24, 2010

I for some reason don't have the kind of ears that ear buds that dangle can stay in snug and comfortable. These head phones have been a part of my workout regiment for the past few years.
I've gone through two pairs in 3 years, which is very good.
These are excellent head phones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jury's still out, but looking good, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Sony Mdr-As100W Active Style Headphones (Electronics)
I found these on the Sony site for over $100.00 and got them from Ritz at just over a third of that. How could you go wrong? I bought these to replace an earlier version of the S2 headphones (they fold up, MDR-S55 I think) which I'd used for at least 4 years without any real problems aside from the phones sliding out of my ears over extended periods of time.

These phones are lighter, more comfortable, and have less microphonics from the cord than the ones I was using before. The sound is OK, and I expect it will get better as they "burn-in."

A definite YES for purchase price, quality, and speed of response from seller.

A definite MAYBE for sound, but leaning towards YES.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound Quality over Comfort, July 21, 2009

Rader023 (Bothell, WA USA) - See all my reviews

I have tried many over the headphones for workout use. My favorite is the Sony MDR-A35G. I have had maybe 5 sets of those since they came out. Not sure how long its been, but its been a long time Ive been wearing these. So I thought I would switch it up. I also have the earbuds that are comparable to this product and liked them, so I thought I would try them. I must say that the sound quality is great, they are not as comfy as the A35G's but maybe over time they will become more flexible and comfortable. I like them though. I am always searching for better sound, and these deliver while maintaining the ability to use in training.

1.0 out of 5 stars What was Sony thinking???, April 21, 2008

I purchased these at a major store on a Saturday to replace some $10 headphones by Sony that had shorted out. Price was $99, but I had just got paid so figured, I'll splurge because maybe the sound quality will be great. Was I ever wrong! The sound had no bass and was quite inferior to my $10 model. The cord was so non-ergonimically planned and dangled to my mid-thigh (I'm 6'1" tall). Also, these headphones actually hurt my ears BIGTIME! I returned them for a refund the very next day. In summary: (1) 10 times more expensive than basic model (2) very poor sound quality (3) painful in my ears and (4) monstrously long cord. Did they test this product with any consumers? Man, someone will be getting fired over this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible. Horrible. Horrible., March 24, 2009
This review is from: Sony Mdr-As100W Active Style Headphones (Electronics)
If you haven't gotten the idea yet, these are horrible. I'm a 5ft5 woman, so average size and not terribly petite, but even on the tightest setting these did not fit my head. The fit was so loose that they rattled when I ran. I submitted for a return with Amazon the very same day they arrived. On top of that, the product description is false; although it states that these headphones have a "slim and lightweight behind-the-neck band," the band actually goes over the head as with old-school headphones. There is nothing behind-the-neck about them. If you're looking for tight-fitting, "active style" neckband headphones, these are not the ones for you. Everything about them is horrible.
