Great little buds!,

This review is from: Sony Mdr-Ex75/Blk Ex Earbuds Headphones with 9mm Hi-Sensitivity Driver (Black) (Electronics)
I bought these to replace my EX71s that died a couple days ago. Man, are these an improvement! Why?
1. The sound: These seem to have a much more "real" sound to them. The highs are brighter, without being tinny, and the low end is punchy and tight. To me, these sound as good as, if not better than, the higher-priced Shure, Sennheiser, and Bose buds. 2. The appearance: This set looks much better than the 71s. Not a huge factor in my book, but it may be in yours. 3. The cord: These cords don't tangle as badly as the older Sonys did. They also abandoned the one-side-longer-than-the-other design, for the more traditional V-shape. 4. The buds themselves: The silicone parts actually stay attached to the plastic housing on this model! (a known issue with previous models) 5. The price: The bang for the buck factor on this set is at the top end of the scale. These $40 headphones compete with models 5X to 10X their cost. What you get: - 1 pair of headphones w/ medium buds installed - 1 2' extension cord - 2 extra sets of silicone buds (sizes Small and Large) - 1 plastic carrying case What you won't get: - Buyer's remorse! UPDATE: Some people have expressed a concern about the "V-shaped" cord as being inferior to the asymmetrical configuration. Please note that there is a slider at the junction point that will allow the user to configure the length of either side of the cord to whatever length he/she desires. This, as one might expect, is superior to the fixed asymmetrical design of its predecessor. UPDATE #2: After several months of stuffing these things in my computer bag, (and not using the provided hard shell case) the cords are starting to revert to their previous model's "tangly-ness". Not a big deal though; they're still better than the 71's...

Best earphones for running plus iphone compatible,

I use these with a iPod Nano for running. The length of the cord is perfect for connecting to the nano in an armband. The silicone buds are the same as the sony mdr-ex70 (my previous earphones) and are quite comfortable. They will stay in the ear no matter how sweaty you get when you exercise. Great sound of course. The sound is slightly better then the ex70. Really good for sealing out all ambient noise. Another bonus feature is that the plug is iphone compatible. I have used it direct to the iphone, but I prefer to use another product (made by shure) that has the mic with my sony earphones. There are honestly no major negatives to these great earphones. Do keep in mind that they need to be cleaned frequently to make sure they continue to sound good. The silicone buds are quite durable, I used the same pair on my ex70s for about 4 years with no noticeable degradation.

Sound great on all types of music, better than EX71,
By J Rad (TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony Mdr-Ex75/Blk Ex Earbuds Headphones with 9mm Hi-Sensitivity Driver (Black) (Electronics)
My EX71's went out in 1 ear (cord got pulled really hard) and other in-the-ear buds sounded muffled or muddy in comparison to my old ones, so I got these. My impression is that sony learned from their mistakes on the EX71 (like the cord design/material) and they seem to be the best for the money right now.
PROS: Regular Y type cord (a pro because I like it better) Great sound, of course Crisp highs and punchy bass that makes a nice sudden POOF type sound Different earbud design, they stay in your ear better Goes to a decent volume without sounding distorted Keeps away outside noise, always a good thing for listening experience, they're like earplugs that play music. Sensitive sound driver makes higher frequencies more crisp. NEUTRAL/CONS: The cord: Cord is shorter than on most earbuds...but comes with an extension cord thats not TOO long (1 ft I think). It won't reach a player in my pants pocket without it. The extension cord weighs down the buds just a little. On the EX71s the extension cord would weigh down the left ear (I hated that) You might hear noise from things touching the cord. Not too bad. Cord is very thin. The ex71s had material that was said to erode over time (never happened to me...and I abused them pretty bad). They seem to be using a more common material. Just don't pull on the cord and they should last forever...or close to it. They seem to be pretty good about not getting tangled up, but I use the carrying case. On a side note its funny to watch people try to open it and get frustrated. Other earbuds seem to be a bit louder at the same volume level. Noticed this with the EX71's too. Maybe its from higher impedance. Full/~95% volume on a PSP seems to be perfect for me (it too puts out lower sound volume than most MP3 players) Brings out the flaws in your music, but this is a good thing. If you haven't noticed already, people on P2P services are terrible at encoding music. 192kbit MP3s are usually a fine balance for file size/quality. By the way, converting MP3s can't make the sound better. Rip from CD or find another MP3 with a higher bitrate. On the left bud I noticed a small rubber nipple (tee hee) so you can tell which bud goes in what ear in the dark. A small thing, but very thoughtful of the design team. Conclusion: These seem to be perfect buds for using with MP3 players if you care about sound quality. Or a good upgrade from EX71s. Because of the cord length they seem like they would be especially good with an ipod shuffle 2G (or another player with a clip)

These Sony EX75 earbuds are the best ones I've ever tried. The sound quality is excellent. I love having a shorter cord with an extension if you need it. The earbuds stay in my ears easily without falling out. I tried the $100 Bose earbuds and perfer these instead. The sound is as good as the Bose. Plus these are extremely light weight which I love. These are my first pick of anything out there. I love every single feature about them.

Good earphones, but how can i tell you... I miss the ex71 (sigh),

I bought these earphones after my mdr-ex71 (Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones (Black)) died after a happy life of heavy use (about 2.5 hours per day for almost 2 years). So I decided to replace those beloved ones with the technological sucessors: the ex75.
I found that there were significant differences between the ex71 and the ex75: a) The ex75 seem to be smaller and lighter, indeed they are very comfortable to use, after a time you won't nottice the fact that you are are using them. b) The cord has a Y shape, some persons will find it comfortable, but I found the assymetrical cord in the ex71 more practical, because you could remove both earbuds from your ear and the cord would remain in that position (if you put the right channel cord behind your neck). With the Y shaped cable, you need to hold the cable when removing the earbuds or you're going to drop them. c) The cord gets easily tangled!!!. Everyday I spent about one or two minutes trying to untangle the cord. (I carry the earphones along with a zen (Creative Zen 32 GB Portable Media Player (Black)) in my pants pocket) d) The sillicone pads DO stay attached to the earbud 'body'. I found this to be a very strong point, the ex71sl pads got loose very easily. e) The sound is far more clear and has a very clear mediumrange and defined treble, you can hear sounds that you won't notice with the ex71. f) The stereo separation is quite good. If you know the Beatles albums in stereo, you know that the channel separation is very important, and these little ones do justice to those albums, I have listened to Abbey Road and the separation is just... awesome. e) The only major letdown of the exr75 is the apparent 'underpowering' of bass. The bass is still there, clear but way more weak than the exr71. If you are a 'metalhead' or are very fond of bass players, this earphones won't do the work. When I hear bands like Led Zep or Queen, I start missing the power bass of the exr71... just kind of.... bass?? where are you?? sigh... Well this is my review for these good earphones. Excuse me if I have grammar and orthography faults, I'm not an english native writer. Greets from Mexico City

I rate these as the best buy for the money!,

I have been through numerous brands and models of earbuds. I recently bought the Ex75 with the 9 Mm drivers more out of curiosity than anything else. I immediately concluded that these were the best buy earbuds for the money. I use them along with my Grado-80 headset for iPod listening, and am still comparing them against my Grado-225 for non-compressed home stereo listening.

Didn't work for me,

This was my second attempt to find a full sounding ear bud for my Nano 4g. I ended up returning this set and the VModa Bass, both high rated ear phones. These ear buds produced a distorted sound with no low end. I tried multiple EQ settings on the player, but I could not compensate. I was very surprised they received a high rating on Amazon. Perhaps these buds could not handle the output from my Nano 4g. Another factor may be the small driver size (8 mm). Otherwise, I thought they were of a high quality construction and were comfortable to wear.
I ended up with the Sony Mdr-Ed12Lp/Blu Budstyle Headphones (Blue). These buds produced a much fuller sound from my player and the buds stayed in my ear during my work out. These buds have a 16 mm driver.

Excellent product,

Great product, sound transmission is very good. Great product for it's price. It's the best sound I've gotten from headphones. Compared them to BOSE overhead headphones and the sound is very much the same, without the expensive price.

Sound Through The Cord,
By Kokeeshi (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony Mdr-Ex75/Blk Ex Earbuds Headphones with 9mm Hi-Sensitivity Driver (Black) (Electronics)
I just received the Sony MDR-EX75 and I really like the sound, crisp highs, full lows....but there's one thing I can't ignore.
There is a short cord (from headphones) which connects to a longer cord (to device). The problem is that when the short cord rubs against or touches anything (say my shirt for instance) I can hear the noise in my ears like a stethoscope. Even the lightest of the lightest taps with my finger echoes into my ear. After a few minutes of really wanting to like this product...I am forced to try something else. Ugh. Three stars for everything else....maybe these are for people who just sit and contemplate their music.

It's a bit hard for me to review these earbuds. On the one hand the sound quality is great, but on the other, they just won't stay in my ears.
I bought these to replace my old Sony "nude" style earbuds (MDR-EX70 I believe). After years of use one of the speakers died, so it was time to move on. The old buds never gave me trouble. Sure, while running a bud would loosen up in my ear canal once in a while and I'd have to push it in deeper. But that was nothing compared to these new buds. With the MDR-EX75 I literally have to adjust the buds every minute or so to keep them in. I've tried all three of the different size rubber pieces many times, and none of them are secure. Perhaps my ear has an uncommon shape/size or maybe Sony changed the rubber somehow. I really don't know, but it's too bad, because in other respects these are great buds. Skimming the other reviews it seems like my problem is rare, but I wanted to share it as a possible issue. |
