Sony 1 GB High Speed Memory Stick PRO Media (MSX-1GN) (Retail Package)

I bought Sony's 1 GB MSX-1GN memory stick for use in Sony's new Cybershot DSC W7 camera. The memory stick has performed exceptionally well. I can store hundreds of high quality, 7 MB photos on it. Or, I can store about 15 minutes of camcorder-quality video on it, recorded at full 640x480 and 30 fps.

The chief qualities that set this memory stick apart (and probably why it costs more than other Pro memory sticks with the same storage capacity) are speed and durability. On the durability side, all of the recent flash media, such as memory sticks, compact flash, and SD cards, are notoriously fragile and can be easily damaged by wide fluctuations in temperature and weather conditions. Sony has ramped up the durability of this card dramatically, claiming that it can handle temperatures from -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. I'd have to see that to believe it, but nevertheless, it is a good thing to have a more durable card.

The real advantage of this card, though, is its speed. It can support read/write speeds of up to 80 megabits per second. To put that in perspective, your typical cable or DSL broadband Internet connection can only handle 1 to 3 megabits of data per second. And even the earlier Sony Pro media (for example, see their 1 GB Pro MSX-M1GS memory stick), though they were very good, could only support around 15 megabits per second. So that makes you realize just how fast the new MSX-1GN really is. It's important to remember that just because the memory stick supports such read/write speeds, that doesn't mean it will actually work that fast in your camera or other device. Each device has its own bottlenecks and limitations, but the important point here is that the memory stick itself will never slow your device down. So if you buy a new hot rod digital camera that boasts of having very little "lag" time between shots, you can be sure that this memory stick will be able to keep up with the camera, so that you won't have to miss that perfect shot while waiting for the last picture to be written to memory.

This is an excellent product, and I would highly recommend it. My only regret is that the 2 GB card was not available at the time that I bought my camera. An important point to take away is, Sony has lots of memory sticks with lots of model numbers. But if you get one, make sure you get the latest ones in the "GN" series (as in, "MSX-1GN" for the 1 GB card, or "MSX-2GN" for the 2 GB card), because these are the ones with the great read/write speed. Note that these sticks cost almost twice as much as the other Sony memory sticks of the same memory capacity, but be assured, they are well worth it and you should not hesitate to buy the faster ones. Why would you want to shell out $400 to $1000 for a cool new camera, and then skimp on the memory and buy slow memory that causes you to miss great shots or take poor quality video clips?

If you need massive storage for your camera buy this product, i didn't need to download my pictures during my last vacation, i took 350 pictures and i had 200 left, i was impresed.

I bought for use with my camera Sony DSCH1 and it works very well, it`s faster for download from camera to the computer and for delete the pictures it`s faster too.
If you have a Sony camera it`s a good memory stick and comes for free a adapter and you can use the same memory stick at the playstation.

Easy to use and download from. Quickly captures and reproduces images in my mini-DV camcorder. Recently used it on a one week trip to Germany and captured hundreds of high quality images at 3.0 MEG resolution. Great investment!

It is a new tool for me as a photographer and I really love it.
Great speed and capacity make it very usefull. I would buy even
larger capacity but unfortunatelly the price is too high, almost
higher then my camera.

This is so outdated by now I'm sure but I bought this for my camera (that I haven't owned in ages) wayyyyyyy back.. I def wanna put reviews on the stuff I buy cuz it's so helpful that other peeps do it too but for this particular product, I bought it forever ago. Amazon keeps displaying it as an item to review so here I am, tryna get it off my page/list. I hope they will add some way to click it off, as I'm not going to want to review evvvvvvverything I buy sheesh.. Anyways! Hope your having a great day!

Although this memory stick is considered obsolete by todays standards, over 3 years old, It works and performs fine. I needed to boost up my memory in my Sony DSC-S90, also obsolete, and I plan on using for several more years. Its a good deal if you can still find new memory sticks at these low prices.

I ordered this product for my son's camera. Unfortunately it wasn't the right memory stick (these things are so confusing) Anyway I contacted the seller via email about maybe exchanging for the correct one but no one ever got back to me. I emailed 3 times and nothing. Even if I couldn't return it, I would of appreciated a response to let me know something.
I will never buy from these folks again.

This memory stick was not only a great price, but exactly what I was looking for.
