I like this "clicker" design - the outer sheath is spring-loaded and will un/cover the USB port when you depress the top, just like a "clicker" pen. Couple things:
**** I abhor the preloaded software, it decreases the speed. So the first thing I did was formatting the drive to FAT-32 so that it would be compatible to both Mac & Windows. Final capacity is 15 GB.**** 1. Subjectively, batch transfer of small files takes about 1/2 time on this one compared to the Sandisk Cruzer 4 GB. 2. The black sheath is plastic. I had wished it to be brushed metal (Ti would have been awesome). 3. There is a place to hook up a lanyard if you want to. 4. After a month of heavy use, it beginning to feel a tad flimsy but still completely functional.

Very easy to use. Capacity is right at 14.9 gigs formatted to fat32. My only concern was that the little piece of plastic that hold the lanyard strap broke off very easily.

I like it for 3 reasons: 1) small size - fits in any USB slot even when crowded by other devices - especially appreciated on laptops where the USB slots are awfully close together 2) no cap to lose 3) good capacity.
Cons: a) flimsy plastic cover b) my coworker keeps taking it home, I guess because he likes it so much ;-)

Best flash drive I've ever owned. Very fast. I would recommend to anyone.
I had the Sandisk 16GB Cruzer, It does't compare to this. (I returned the Sandisk and bought this instead)

I bought this flash drive because it was rated as one of the fastest, priced right with others rated similar, and is the same brand as the Sony Blu-Ray player I bought it for.
It works.

Great product and quite tiny. As always, Sony makes a reliable product. Probably the most convenient size for a 16GB flash drive.

Only way to improve it would be to make it out of aluminum,

I've been using this flash drive since Dec. 09, and have had no problems with it at all. I mean, it's a flash drive. The click-function is pretty fun to play with, it opens quickly on both my mac and the windows computer at work and transfers files with ease. It does what it's supposed to. So the main reason I'm writing this review- I was at a professional conference last week and had my presentation loaded on my flash drive, transferred it for the conference, and then lost my flash drive. I could not find it in my purse where it usually lives, wasn't in my backpack, not in the pockets of what I was wearing that day...I thought I'd lost it in the madness of Washington, D.C. somewhere and was pretty bummed about it. Being a good grad student, I had extra copies of everything, so that wasn't an issue, but it had been a Christmas present and I get easily attached to things. So moral of the story, I found it in the bottom of the washing machine today. After having run the washer. And it still works!

I have been using Sony 16 GB drives for about 2 years and I haven't had any problems with them. I like the clicker. I don't usually travel with them, so I haven't tested durability while travelling. For my purposes, they're durable.
I use them to backup important files on my C drive. I keep one at my desk and 2 are stored elsewhere. Periodically, they switch places (The one at my desk goes elsewhere and another one returns to my desk). I've been writing to them using synchronization software (Allway sync), so it's not writing every file each time -- It only writes new or changed files.

I bought one of these about 7 months ago after pouring over reviews for different products. I've never had a problem with Sony's flash products in the past, and other brands all had at least some legitimate complaints about failures or incompatibilities and whatnot, so I just ended up buying this. No complaints at all so far. It seems fast, and has worked fine as a boot drive for my computer too.
I'm thinking of buying a second one for my Xbox 360, now that they're shifting from proprietary memory cards to USB sticks. Since (currently as of 6/15/2010) the Xbox is limited to using 16GB of a memory card, I think I'll just buy another 16GB version even though Sony's got a 32GB model now. (Technically I should buy another one to use full time in my Blu Ray player too...) |
