Genuine Sony Battery. (I was suspicious...),

This review is from: Sony NPBN1 Rechargeable Battery Pack (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
There's not much to say about a battery, but I just wanted to drop my 2¢ for anybody who, like me, thought this price looked too good to be true for a genuine battery, and is suspicious it might be an aftermarket or even counterfeit battery. I'm accustom to Sony spare batteries costing a pretty penny. This battery is certainly the real deal -- Genuine Sony -- shipped in that annoying blister packaging with all the cardboard inserts. (For what it's worth, mine came from Amazon seller "Dependable Resource." Direct from Amazon wasn't a choice at the time, but is now. I can't vouch for any of the other sellers on here.) I felt this was worth mentioning because the price seemed a little too good to be true, and the photo Amazon was using at the time looked a little faded and... phony. And a quick scan of "that auction site" revealed a bunch of 3rd party and outright fake Sony batteries. So I was suspicious. So, good going Amazon and "Dependable Resource," whomever you are. Good to have one or two of these little spares on hand, because they don't last long in the TX9, and they seem to have a limited shelf life after topping off (compared to the battery in my Panasonic LX5, which seems to last forever).

Short Life,

This battery is used in the Sony TX7 camera. I don't know if it's the battery or the camera, but the battery simply does not last very long. The camera manual says you can take a little over 200 shots or view x amount of photos. Combine the two of taking and viewing and the battery dies quickly. It really works out to being able to take less than half the amount of photos they claim.
The battery is costly. It dies faster than most other camera batteries. It takes about 2 hours to charge. And you need at least two or three batteries to carry with you because of the short life. But, the camera does take good pictures. The bottom line is that you just don't have a choice if you want the TX7 camera.

Great Replacement,

I bought this battery as a back-up for my new Sony Cybershot camera. I keep it in the carry case ready to be used when the other one dies. No problems with this new one. The only issue I can say is be careful when inserting the battery. The "N" battery is thinner than the model for my older Sony camera and you can easily insert it the wrong way. I spent several minutes thinking my brand new camera was broken because the battery latch would not close. Then I realized I was putting it in the wrong way.
