This thing is crap. Audio is fuzzy, range in poor, and the battery alarm is super loud and wakes the babies. Don't waist your money.

We own the old analog Sony Babycall (still going strong after 4 years) and found ourselves currently in the market for a new monitor due to arrival of baby #2. It is a love/hate relationship wth the old Babycall: random spurts of interference and crazy beeping saying it has lost the signal from the baby unit, but ridiculously clear and free of static with great range and long long long battery life. So we had very high hopes for Sony's newer updated digital monitor.

PROS:
1. It's cute. Looks like a pair of baby shoes.
2. It's a Sony.
3. Decent range. No loss of signal from separating the monitor 400 feet and through 3 walls.

CONS:
1. At max volume, it was difficult to hear the monitor over just ambient noise (TV on at moderately low volume, washing dishes).
2. I found it odd that the digital monitor would have so much hiss... perhaps because I had cranked up the volume to max in order to hear the baby.
3. The sound quality and sensitivity was suprisingly weak. With the old Babycall I could hear the baby breathing. Not so much with this one. There's also no way to adjust the sensitivity of the mic, and the unit I received seemed to only relay a signal to the parent unit if the baby was hollering. I would prefer to get my baby when she first starts to wimper, not when she is pissed off beyond belief.
4. Decent range. No loss of signal from separating the monitor 400 feet and through 3 walls.

Overall:
If it wasn't for the volume issue, we would keep it. But what's the point of having a baby monitor if you can't hear the baby? I would rather buy another older Babycall and have it go off randomly rather than deal with the anxiety of not being able to hear my baby. So this unit was returned. High praises to Amazon for their easy return policy.

We've been using this monitor for almost two years now and I still love it. I wanted an inexpensive no-nonsense monitor and this was it. We use a loud air purifier in my daughter's room while she sleeps and this monitor picks up her voice over the sound very well. I rarely have to put the volume over the halfway mark. It's been dropped several times and is holding up very well. We're having another child in July and I will continue to use this monitor--if it stops working I plan to buy another just like it.

We bought this to replace our Motorola that died just after the warranty was up. At the time it had good ratings. However, we were fooled. The range is not nearly as good as advertised, and if it loses connection, it makes a very very loud beeping sound until you turn it off. Even if just one room away, it will sometimes randomly lose connection, make loud beeps and wake everyone up and you have to turn it off then back on to get it to stop and re-set the connection. Don't waste your money on this.

After a monitor with constant feedback when other electronics were plugged in, this is a welcome silence. I find myself waking up in the middle of the night to make sure it is still on because I am so used to the noise from our other one. Even with a fan on in the boy's room, the only noise that comes through the receiver is when they talk or cry out. A perfect gift for new parents!
