I read more than I should; so constantly buying ebooks does get to be expensive.

I bought this Sony Wi Fi so I could connect to both the Philadelphia library online, and the Brooklyn library online. Both allow out-ot-state memberships for those wanting to download ebooks.

I set up the wi fi on this Reader; then I keyed in the necessary data under the Public Library icon. Now, all I have to do, is go to Public Library icon, and I have two selections to choose from. Once I make my selection, the Reader logs me into my library of choice. I search for a book, then download it to the Reader.

It doesn't get any better than this. Free books, free downloads, now if I could just win the Lottery, I'd be allllll settttt.

Love it!

This reader has been covered quite a bit in all the other reviews already so I will keep this short.

#1. Believe all of the good stuff you read about this device it is all true.

#2. Believe the Horror Stories concerning this device also. What? Did I contradict myself? No Not at all. Fresh out of the box this device behaves terribly just like all the negative reviews have stated. There is however a cure all you have to do is go to the sony website and down load the latest update for this device install it and this device then becomes a very enjoyable purchase.

I give this device 5 stars and would give it even more if it had access to Amazon's Library I have owned e-readers in the past Sony PRS505 and currently own and use an iPad. E-Ink is by far superior and easier on the eyes. This reader handles .PDF Documents better than any other on the market as of 2012-06-01

If I had to do it all over again I would not regret buying this product.

I love my three Kindles (4, Touch, and Kindle Fire), but when I found this at Target for a close-out price, I bought it on a whim. I am delighted with the purchase. It gives me more options because of the EPub format.

My favorite feature is the direct link to my library with my card # and password now in its memory. A computer is unnecessary to check out eBooks. The Reader Store has direct links to Internet Archive and Project Gutenburg which makes downloading to both my PC Library and my Reader quick and easy.

The Sony Reader is lightweight and I have the option of either swiping the screen or using the page-turn buttons. A problem with the Kindle Touch was losing my place if I fell asleep while reading (the reason for purchasing the Kindle 4). The Sony Reader is not so touch sensitive.

As much as I love the Amazon Kindle Store and my Kindles, there are advantages beyond the Kindle fold.

The reader can be easily rooted and then full Android is available to you. I have two of these readers and I love them. A hint: once rooted, get rid of the apps "telephony provider.apk" and "phone.apk" because they just drain the battery and are not needed otherwise (as this isn't a phone). This is an incredible device (especially once rooted) and I cannot recommend it enough.

Nice reader! Light, easy-carrying, clear screen with sony style looking...
But I'm not so happy with the flashing pages. When you turn on a new page, it always makes exaggerated explosion. Yep! Just like the flash bombs explode right in front of your eyes. Hope the new updates can fix it.

I had this ereader for about 2+ months and I must say it suits my needs. Its handling, touch sensitivity is excellent for epub. The weight is negligible and allow prolong holding in single hand. (in fact my Navitech case cover weigh as much as the reader)The audio player quality is good, though I hardly use it.

The browser setup was easy but it's slow and the constant flicker or re-fresh make it very uncomfortable to use and surf. I stop using it totally after my first attempt as I have other device for surfing purpose. In fact most of the functions are SLOW but manageable

it read PDF natively and reflow the text, BUT it is very slow, taking a few seconds to turn a page. This is so especially if you change the font size. The first few page turning takes a second, but as you continue reading, it can get to like 3 to 5 second to turn a page. So if you need it to read BIG PDF books, I think it is not a good device.

The ereader allow highlights which is useful as a summary. BUT it does not allow you to extract out into a file. I use the desktop reader but it only sync and allow books that is bought from sony store to extract the highlighted notes. Even then, my last experience is that not ALL my highlighted notes was extracted. It extracted notes upto about page 200 out of a 500 page book. Maybe its a bug.

Overall, if your needs is a reader for Epub ONLY, then I think it is excellent.

Got a great deal on a refurb, directly from the Sony store. It's not a bad thing to buy last years model at a huge discount and get a matching cover for free. The reader is a great unit, one of the lightest out there with very clear readability, all necessary connectivity, SD extendable, even plays MP3s. Fits any pocket. No regrets here. So far so good, where I have to take the stars off is for the software. Over and over I ran into a corrupted reader database, listing books as to be deleted, no way to get rid of these entries. After some struggling I found the reader sync to be responsible for this, after a few syncs you may see books appearing twice in the software's inventory but not physically on the reader. The minute you detect this you are doomed. Since then I'm staying away from the sync feature, instead side-load the reader and have it maintain it's database. If stuck with a corrupted database, delete it from the reader and have it rebuilt. Only problem is the loss of status info, e.g. what book you had read, what page you were on etc. There really is no need to use the PC/Mac Reader software, features are poor, you can easily end up with duplicates in your library, and the much discussed sync bug. The readers content is easily accessible via USB mount, load and back it up that way. If you are technically savvy you can manage, but shouldn't have to, Sony needs to fix this.
