5.0 out of 5 stars One Hot Piece of Hardware November 11, 2001
Well, I finally got hold of one of Sony's new screens for the PS one. Was it worth the wait? Yes!
First off, for those of you who don't know, this is a thin film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal screen that can be screwed into the back of a Sony PS one, allowing you to play without a TV. The display screen itself is 5" diagonally, or about 4" by 3.25" in size. The screen is hinged to a 3/4 inch-thick backer that is the same size as the back of a PS one. The backer plugs into the console's DC In and Audio Video Out. Once it is plugged in, the backer looks almost like it is an integral part of the PlayStation. It can be held more firmly in place by means of a pair of screws. The screws' heads are huge (about 2/5 of an inch in diameter) and made of some kind of non-pliable alloy, so it would be practically impossible to strip them or damage their driver slots. And if you don't have a screwdriver handy, they are large enough to allow you to use a coin. The backer has a pair of rubber pads (like the four under the PS one) on its underside, and these keep the system stable even when the screen is tilted back all the way. Because it is hinged, the screen can fold neatly down on top of the PS one, laptop style. Four buttons allow you to adjust screen brightness and sound volume. All in all, the unit is well-constructed and very nice to look at.
The visual display is of the highest quality that I've seen yet. The resolution is very high, higher, in fact, than that of InterAct's Mobile Monitor. I stayed up late last night testing out all my games with the screen, and I couldn't find a single problem with it. The colors were bright and rich, the framerate was smooth, and the resolution was excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars PS One LCD Screen November 13, 2001
If you have a PS One console, this screen is a must have. The only LCD for the PS One made by Sony, and it fits like a glove on the back of the console. The graphic is amazingly clear on this light weight and super thin LCD screen. I can't believe the great sound that were coming out from those two little speakers. The only draw back at this time is that there is no car adaptor availible from Sony. However, this is yet another great product by Sony, it was well worth the wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Superb March 27, 2002
By A Customer
After much deliberation about which mobile monitor to get, I decided on the Sony. Reviews for other products I checked were about on par with those for this unit, but I figured the "non 3rd party" product was probably the best. For once, I was right. The picture is amazing, with even the slightest detail distinguishable (including RPG text). I'm not big on video game sound overall (through TV either), but when I have the volume on here, it's impressive. The one fear I had was that it wouldn't be able to be connected to DVD / VCR / etc, due to the lack of an RCA connection on the screen. Luckily, that fear was allayed after a 5 minute trip to RadioShack and $7.99 for the RCA--1/8" connector. I hooked it up to the DVD, VCR and cable box, and was quite pleased with the result. I've come to terms with the fact that I can't afford picture-in-pucture yet, but by hooking the LCD up to my cable box, "picture-on top of-picture" works for me. I know it's only supposed to be for use with the PSone, and it's great for playing games when there's something better on TV, but the other potential uses are great as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing is awesome! July 15, 2002
By A Customer
It is the smallest in size but still has the biggest screen!
It has clarity beyond that of a T.V. It is really worth getting!
It even has a briteness buttons so if its in the dark or the light you can play. And if the game starts to annoy others you can plug in headphones! Since the PSone has SONYs fameous G-Protection it' the best for travel! There isn't one thing I don't like about this.

4.0 out of 5 stars the best thing made by sony (not the PS2!) June 28, 2004
A Kid's Review
I had this for almost a year now and it rocks! I have a GameCube, PS2, N64, NES, SNES, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, and a PSone of course. Out of all I just said, I like the PSone the best. Why? Well, it has some of the best games and the PSone is cheap and with the LCD screen (a screen that has liquid clear display) more enjoyable because it can go in the car and plane and my room! In addition, the games for the PSone range from $5 to $30. If you do not want to use the screen, plug the PSone to you are home TV and play away when the small LCD screen still attached to the PSone. In addition, if you have the right camcorder, you can play what is on it right threw the PSone LCD screen with one cheap cord. You can also use headphones on the LCD screen to hear what you are playing on them. In addition, if you forgot you are CD player and brought you are music CD's, why not play em' on the PSone... you CAN!
-cheap games
-great selections of games
-totally portable
-plays what's on the camcorder with special cord that the
camcorder can support
-doubles as a CD player
-can use headphones on it
-what cons?!
Bottom line; get the PSone with the LCD screen both by SONY. Thanks for readn'!

5.0 out of 5 stars A life sayver September 15, 2002
I travel cross country with the kids fairly often and any parents out there know what that means. The LCD screen is the perfect item for my sanity. With the car adapter (sold seperately) I can hook up the playstation and earphones--with a spliter both kids can listen--and life is good. When you get to your destination or vacation and it rains or you are stuck somewhere, pull out the regular adapter and play continues with no need to pull apart anyone's TV setup.
Of the screens I looked at out there, this is the best. First, it is a sony product so the warranty stays intact and the fit is the best out there. The visual quality is great and the speakers work suprisingly well. I have had it for over 6 months and criss-crossed the US and Europe with no problems. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys their PS.
