5.0 out of 5 stars Stick with Sony brand memory
We bought a Mad Catz memory card, which was not recognized by our PS One. We then purchased a Sony Memory Card for PS One, which was recognized and asked if we wanted to format it. The PS One formatted the Memory Card and were able to save games such as Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro. The Mad Catz web site had suggested removing all but one...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not guaranteed to be Sony brand!!!
WARNING if you order this! It is NOT guaranteed to be Sony brand, despite the picture and the reviews! I ordered from this exact page, even clicked here from my 'items you ordered' list, but the card I got is most definitely NOT Sony brand. It is a very off-brand 'compatible' card.

The page is VERY misleading, and I'm considering returning it. I at least...

The Mad Catz web site had suggested removing all but one controller and then trying it but we were pretty fed up at that point. Third Party memory may be cheaper, but it's certainly not better.

I own a couple of these SONY brand memory cards, and have had one of them for about 3 years without a single failure. I also bought a cheaper off-brand card which erased all my saved games after about 1 month. After playing Final Fantasy for a dozen hours, I was really bummed to lose all that time because I had saved on the cheaper card.

5.0 out of 5 stars PS 2 pre-requisite...GET ONE!, April 29, 2001
This review is from: Sony Playstation PlayStation Memory Card (White) (Video Game)
If you plan on owning/renting/playing any PS One games on your PS 2 system, you can't use the PS 2 memory cards to save games. There should be a big yellow sticker warning PS 2 owners of this on every PS One game, but there isn't, so here I am! In short, get one of these and you're covered for saving games when you want to play the thousand+ titles that aren't out yet in PS 2 format...

4.0 out of 5 stars Well..., January 11, 2002
This review is from: Sony Playstation PlayStation Memory Card (White) (Video Game)
I didn't think this was a bad storage system, but it wasn't that great either. 15 blocks is NOT NEARLY ENOUGH to hold all of what you can save. In fact I have up to 4 memory cards now because I couldn't find a mega memory card in time!

When you play games like Madden 1998-2002 and stuff then you NEED more space. Some sports game take up 2-15 spaces of memory on one card! Are you telling me that your gonna settle for that!? Think about it for a moment. If you play some games then its easy, one block.

But what about some of the RPGers who may have a favorite boss fight? Or the Action/Adventure gamers who have a favorite level or part of the game? What about the sports gamers who have to save up to the entire memory card?

Well, I'm not saying for you to buy this, but I'm not saying leave it alone either. If you buy this memory card you'll have to buy plenty more where that came from.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Need A Memory Card!, February 21, 2001
By
This review is from: Sony Playstation PlayStation Memory Card (White) (Video Game)
This is one of the most important things for a system. If you don't have one you can't save games. And if you can't save games you'll have to start over from the begining each time! So when your getting your system make sure you get the memory card. It's very important. If you don't, your missing out A LOT!

3.0 out of 5 stars Depends...., February 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony Playstation PlayStation Memory Card (White) (Video Game)
By "depends" I mean that it depends on how many games you have.If you have 10+ or at least four sports games you should get about five of these at Funcoland,Gamestop, etc. or any used game shop. You can just wipe out the old information.(It's cheaper that way;) )If you just got a Playstation you should get it here, or if you have a job(you're an adult) you should get it here. But if you have a PS2 you NEED the Sony memory card, like the other reviews said.If you are new to Playstation look on the back of every game near where it lists the accessories it will tell you how many blocks that game uses. This memory card holds 15 blocks.Hope this helped you!
PS DON'T BUY 3rd PARTY ANYTHING, THEY USALLY FAIL!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only memory card you should buy., September 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony Playstation PlayStation Memory Card (White) (Video Game)
Who would know more about the Playstation's saving features better than Sony? After all, they made the system. I have had my two memory cards for over three years and they haven't failed once.

The only drawback is that the memory cards don't have enough space for games with saves that take up as much as an entire card. At this point, it's just a matter of memory management and asking yourself if you really need that save from a game you rarely play.

Still, it's much better to buy a memory card from the manufacturer and have a guarantee that it will not fail rather than buying a third-party memory card (MadCatz) and worry that it will crash.

2.0 out of 5 stars What-EVER, July 31, 2002
This review is from: Sony Playstation PlayStation Memory Card (White) (Video Game)
Woo-hoo. It's a minimalist peripheral. What can I say? It does what it is supposed to do, and NOTHING more. And that is really frustrating as 15 blocks of memory is WAY to little memory to save an even average amount of games. I own the game SaGa Frontier, and I need all 15 blocks for that. So what happens? That's right--Sony gets more of my money.
If you are using a PSOne, get a trustworthy 3rd party memory card (InterAct ones work well and hold good amounts). However, if you are using a PS2, I guess you have no choice, data saved on 3rd party cards have the tendency to suddenly get destroyed. Once again, the customer is being sacrificed so they can maximize profit.
So the final word? Get it if you have to.
