All About the PS One,
By
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
I really do love this system, and I'm happy I bought it, even with the Playstation 2 coming just around the corner. There are a couple of things you should know if you are considering this console, though...The PS One is simply a Playstation, it plays all the same games, and offers no improvements in speed or graphics. If you look at the picture, the system actually is about the same size as the controller! It's very small, and yes, very "cute", but all Sony did was take the old Playstation and put it in a new case. The PS One is not really a portable system. The LCD screens I've seen for it are the size of a CD - hardly big enough for most PS games, especially RPGs. Also, you will still need a power outlet, and the controller will always be seperate, so playing a few rounds of Tony Hawk between classes is hardly convenient. It is easier to move from TV to TV, though. The Playstation 2 plays 99.9% of the games that the PS One does. Also, the PS2 improves the graphics and loads the games slightly faster. If you are absolutely certain that you are getting a PS2 in the next 12 months, you might want to wait. Better yet, spend your money on the outstanding Dreamcast. So why get a PS One? Well, if you are in the same position as I am - you have a broken Playstation and a large library of games that you miss. I play RPGs on a small TV in my bedroom before I go to sleep, whereas I want to keep my PS2 in the living room for the DVD playback.

PSone. It's so CUUUTE!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
I wasn't planning on getting this at first; I've got a reserve for a PS2. But after seeing one, I had to grab!Okay, what is it? Essentially, it's just a PlayStation (same specs and everything, minus serial and parallel ports); only smaller. MUCH smaller (take 2 DVD cases, stack them on top of each other, and you've got an idea of PSone's size!). Personally I always thought that the original PlayStation was compact, but THIS wins the prize! You also get a Dual-Shock controller (same as the previous ones, which you can STILL use), the power supply (external now; this isn't a battery-operated portable), and an A/V cable (just like the old PS, you still need to plug this into a TV). Supposedly (hopefully), Sony will be bringing out a clip-on screen for the unit next year. Although this isn't quite a fully-portable game system (right now, you still need an AC plug and a TV screen), it is far more TRANS-portable than any other console on the market today; much more easy-to-pack. If you're looking for a replacement for your current PS, and you don't need a PS2 (yet), a PSone is a great LITTLE device. Besides, it's so CUUUTE!!!

best system out there (I mean that),
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
All the people who write 1-star reviews NEVER played this system. They just write stuff to hopefully be one of the top 1000 reviewers...Now for the real review: I had a choice to make a year ago. Xbox? ps2? gcn? gba? dc? I had considered all of these. I decided to drop xbox and gcn becuase or their terrible game selection. I dropped dc when i heard it was discontinued. So that left gba or ps2. I also dropped gameboy advance because i had gameboy pocket, the original, and gbc. Right now they are deep inside my closet collecting dust. After much research, I finally came to a conclusion to ask for a ps2 for the holidays. I added up all necessary harware accesories and games to see how much they all cost. A console, memory card, controller, and 5 descent games costs around 600 dollars. I dont know about you, but after my parents spending 600 dollars i dont think they will be geting me new games that often. Looking even further, i decided to take a shot with the 7 year old ps1. I wasnt to thrilled with my choice. Now, im so glad i chose this. Instead of 600 dollars (which buys only 5 good ps2 games, and the console), I used 200 dollars to get a ps1, all accesories, and 12 amazing games. If you ask me, buy this cool machine. Wait 2 years until a ps2 drops, then buy a ps2. oh ya, ps2 is going to be popular for a while becuase ps3 is going to cost 500 dollars :)
If your looking for some good ps1 games, check this list out. (its listed from my number one favorite, to my number 10 favorite) 1. Final Fantasy IX

The PS One is okay,
A Kid's Review

Okay the PS One is a "cute" gamesystem. It has all the features that the regular playstation. It's compatible with the regular controllers and memory cards which is a great thing to do. It also works with all playstation games. I think this would be a lot better with the LCD screen that is coming next year and the cell phone for the PS One that will get internet access to get some updates I guess. Even though it's easy to travel with and all I still recommend getting the old playstation. Because the old playstation can still do a little more things like have another port so it can take the mod chips and gameshark. AND the PS One OVERHEATS BADLY in two hours. I even had some friends who said they had to exchange it for a new one because it short circuted. The regular playstation has a fan inside the system so it wouldn't overheat. I think they PS One would be better if it also has a fan inside it.

Playstation One Console VERSUS Playstation Console,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
I don't exactly own one of these, but I'm thinking about buying one, and have done some research about them. There are some very minor differences: --Playstation One does not have a fan (overheats if played for long periods of time) --Playstation (REGULAR) console has a fan --Playstation (REGULAR) has one more port for gameshark, goldeneye, etc. --Playstation One does NOT have a port for cheating devices, etc. --Playstation One will have an optional LCD screen (sold separately) enabling it to be PORTABLE, a handy feature. --Playstation (REGULAR) does not have an optional LCD screen (sold separately) --Playstation One is small and compact --Playstation (REGULAR) is compact, but bigger than PS OneThese are the only differences that I have discovered so far. I think those stated above are accurate, but I can not guarentee. My sources of information were various reviews from online stores, and web sites. I hope this was a helpful review to you. :)

An awesome, affordable little system,

This is a great gaming system that an entire family can enjoy. There are many improvements over the old PSX that I've noticed so far:-FMVs and graphics load alot faster -The 'Geiss-like' CD visual effects are ... awesome -New audio effects for CD music I've seen some people who claim that this system "doesn't have a fan, so it will overheat." This is a big lie. Firstly, I have alot of RPGs for the PSX, and you probably know you can spend hours upon hours at a time playing those games. Well the original PSX never had a fan and it never overheated. I know this, because I had to repair my old PSX several times and I never saw a fan inside. I bought Final Fantasy 9 not to long ago, and if this thing was gonna overheat, it would be a melting pile of plastic by now as much as I've played that game :P You might also think that the little screen and battery pack comming out for this thing will be too expensive for you. Well according to IGN, the Sony brand Screens and Battery packs will be around ..., and third party companies will be making even cheaper versions! Why spend time waiting for other 'next-generation' systems to come out with good games, when there are already good, inexpensive games out there for this system? Get a PS One and let the ebay druglords keep there PS2s :P

SOOOOO AWESOME!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
If your looking for a playstation to buy don't buy the crummy old kind get this for it is the same price but a whole lot better. It can be plugged into the T.V. and in 2001 the will have a battery and an LCD sreen so you can play on the plane or even in the car. If you already have old controllers and memory cards they will work just fine on this tiny console. So if your looking for a new playstation this is a better buy than the normal playstation.

ALERT--PSone USERS! ADAPTER COMPATABILITY,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
This is a warning for all you people you have this product, or are about to purchase it. There is only ONE RFU adapter on the whole entire market that works with this console. That is the Sony Playstation RFU Adapter which you can purchase on this web site. The model number of the adapter is: SCPH-1121I hope this has helped you. I'm still trying to refund all the RFU adapters that didn't work with it. (I have tried about 5) Anyway, I hope you don't run into so much compatability trouble as I did, because if you do, you're gonna throw a fit.

Still The Best,
By
This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
A lot of reviewers complain about how the PSone overheats, has no ports for GameShark and is an outdated system. Personally I have not experienced any problems with overheating. As I am currently playing Final Fantasy IX I spend HOURS with the game and not once has the PSone overheated to an unsafe level; it barely heats up at all if you place it in a well-ventilated area. The controller still has the same feel as the original. The PSone, however, takes up considerably less room than the original. I live in a dorm where space is very limited and I have the PSone of top of my computer tower and between a filing cabinet. It fits well and looks great in the room. However, the games make the PSone stand out. While PS2 can play regular Playstation and PS2 games, it makes no sense to purchase the PS2 when the available games are less than excellent. With the PSone you can play all your classic Playstation games, which are very affordable as well. While you can buy a PS2 with a couple of games, you can purchase a PSone and build a sizable library of games for the system. The PSone is the best system out there. While the technology is outdated, the games are gems that have stood the test of the time. You can't beat the price, the size, and the sheer convenience of being able to take the PSone wherever you go.

awesome little buddy!,

This review is from: Sony Playstation PS One - Video Game Console (Video Game)
I must admit when i first saw this I said to my self so what? a little playstation. Well I bought one and it is amazing how they fit evreything inside that tiny little case. It is still a playstation but it fits so nicely in my briefcase that i now travel with it wherever i go. Plug it in, connect to a TV and boom! instant fun. Mod chips are also available for this tiny wonder. Then next year when SONY releases the LCD screen for my little buddy and a battery pack it will be truly portable. This thing is about the size of a discman so it can even fit in your pocket. Is that a playstation in your pocket or are you just glad to see me! It still will play CD's and it has shuffle play and sound enhancer to make your CD's sound different with reverb and cool stuff like that. awesome design, playstation games you cant go wrong. I love my PSone! there i said it
