As others have stated, if you are buying a Sony VCT-50, 60, or 80AV tripod you do not need this part because those tripods have the remote operations features built into the handle and include the cable that connects to many Sony camcorders. Amazon needs to correct the product description. If have a video tripod with just a plain handle then this device will work nicely.

I plug in remote to my HDR-SR11 and clip controler to tripod arm. now I can zoom in and out slow or fast smoothly, record take pictures turn on and off all with my thumb away from camera. It does the job it was created to do very well.

This is an excellent quality remote for the Sony Handycams. A real nice match for my Sony HDR-SDR11 camcorder mounted on my new Bogen 701HDV Fluid Video Head. This unit fits perfectly on the 701's main control handle. The mounting clip is strong, padded and plenty big for the 701. The zoom and other controls work very well and this is also a good looking remote commander! The zoom buttons have two-speeds as well! This baby is a steal for under $40! It is perfectly fine for general-duty prosumer use.

I bought this for use with my Sony HDR-SR11 and HDR CX7. Works great with both. This plugs into the Sony A/V R port. Same port used to output standard def video. Options are power ON/OFF, fast and slow zoom in/out, start/stop video recording and take a photo.

Very useful tool for taking videos on a tripod. Makes it much easier.
Clamp could be a bit lager since it does not fit at the handle of my video head.

I bought this remote to use with the new Sony cx150 High Def. Camcorder. I have big hands so running the controls on this little camcorder was tough. This remote took care of my problem and is very easy use. I use mine with both a monopod and a Tripod and it works great with both.

I record my sons soccer games for his high school. Last season I did not have the remote commander from Sony. After 30 games, my wrist was hurting. This season I purchased the remote commander and it delivers. The control clamps to my tripod handle and works seamlessly. No more two handed recording. The unit was ordered and received with no problems in oem packaging.

Excellent videoing tool. It took longer than expected to get it since it took a week for them to pick and pack it. The US mail was quicker than the prep work. I would buy from them again but would have to have as much as 2 weeks lead time.

If you own a newer sony camera you have to have this item to use any other tripod than a sony tripod with this camera.
Love the product hate sony for changing the zoom and record buttons and the plug in and going to a non standard item.

Good quality and does what it should do. Since it does use the same plug-in that the SD monitor would use, one will need to purchase a HDMI monitor when using the RM-AV2; there will be no other option in this case.
