This is a very attractive, sturdy-looking remote that would have done very well with my three four-year-olds. I have a Sony KD-34XBR970 CRT Television, which I use to watch HDTV over-the-air (OTA). In case you are not aware, most major networks are still available for free via broadcast if you have an antenna and television with a digital tuner. There are over three dozen high-definition stations in the Boston area.

Digital OTA stations, however, use a period in their station number. For example, WGBH in Boston - which was Channel 2 before the switch to Digital - would be 2.1, and may include substations such as 2.2, which it does.

The Sony RM-KZ1 Universal Kids TV Remote Control (Green), unfortunately, does not have a "period" button in its station controls. It therefore does not work with Sony or any other brand of television that receives signals OTA. This was confirmed by Sony Support via both Twitter and Email.

This was a significant oversight, in my opinion.

My son loves the remote to play with to push the buttons. however it is not compatable with comcast cable, so he can not use it the way it should be used. he can only use the volume and power on and off. So if you have comcast, don't even bother.

We bought this item after seeing a pin on Pinterest. We have a cable box, and our kids were wanting to learn how to turn the tv on and off and pick their shows. But, the remote for the cable box is pretty complex. Just to get to the right channels you have to push a few buttons! and then the shows they want to watch are on 3 digit numbers! It took me 5 minutes to set it up. Like I said, we have a cable box, so we had to program in the tv and the cable box- I had read reviews of people saying that it didn't work with their box, but we took the chance- for the price, we figured why not. But, the list is HUGE of options and codes for tvs, cable boxes and satellite. Like I said, 5 minutes of set up, and the kids got to use it. I showed them once what to do and they love it. Now they can come and watch tv and I don't have to worry about what channels they are turning too to get to their shows! This price is amazing too- we would have paid way more for this product- it is teaching the kids independence- even my 3 year old can come find a show while I am busy doing homework with the others!

Besides kids this is a great help to senior citizens. My mom has memory issues and severe arthritis and this remote has made using the tv much easier

A remote like this is great for kids... Any parent knows how kids can be when they get their hands on the real thing.

Pros:
-Price
-Easy to set up
-Setup buttons and batteries are securely covered
-Fun and colorful
-More than enough preset numbers to accommodate favorite channels

Cons:
-When a preset button is pressed, the numbers are entered rather slowly, so if another button is pressed before the channel changes, the numbers can mix and switch to an entirely different channel. This tends to happen a lot.

This is neither pro nor con, but for younger kids, I would recommend only connecting the remote to the cable/satellite box because of the volume control buttons.

I do not know why other reviews say it is hard to set up unless I'm just amazing, but I found it to be relatively easy to do with the included step by step instructions and guide. It works for controlling the on/off/volume of my son's TV (Panasonic) and goes to the channels we had set it to on an AT&T U-verse receive.

Battery life has been good so far; 6 months of use without changing batteries.

CONS: There is one issue I can think of in that there is no period button, and would therefore likely not work with air broadcast HD channels. But we have not tried to use it for that yet.

I bought this for my two boys for christmas, they're 6 and 2. I set it up yesterday so it would be ready christmas morning. I have a sony tv and a time warner cable box. There is one major step missing from the instructions. The remote is set up for 4-digit channel numbers. So it wouldn't work for me unless I entered 4 digits. For example 0067 instead of just 67. I tried it over and over again, eventually calling sony customer service. I ended up figuring it out myself while I was on hold with him. It works great now and I can't wait to give it to them for christmas.

Also it says here that 2 AA batteries are included, they're not. It takes 2 AAA batteries, and they are not included.

Still the price is great, and it seems like a good product.
