The Perfect Low-Cost Remote,

This is such a great remote. It feels so ergonomic. The buttons feel just right. The channel and volume controls are perfectly placed and sized. You can even control PIP features (works for my Panasonic). The finish is high quality. Everyone should have this remote. At this price you cannot get better than this.

Great remote!,

Our toddler killed our original remote and since we have all Sony items (DVD, VCR and TV), we decided to get a Sony remote too. The best part is that we didn't have to program a thing! It immediately recognized all of our Sony electronics. It's also nice that we didn't lose all of the features of our original remote. It is very easy to use. I halfway think we should get another one to have as a backup just in case.

This is a good, cheap, basic remote that I use for my TV and DVD player. It is very ergonomic and in a few weeks of use I have adjusted easily to using it and haven't found any big annoyances. There are some quirks involved in keeping it simple and not overloading it with buttons - The channel +/- buttons function as the track-skip for the DVD, for example. The one difficulty I had was in programming it. I spent easily an hour pouring through the 4-6 page instructions and punching in all sorts of codes. I felt like my Dad bumbling with the VCR until I realized the problem: Make sure you press that "Setup" button nice and hard, because it isn't sensitive in the least!

This is a near perfect remote to replace a lost or damaged TV remote and you can't beat the price for what you get.I have a 1996 JVC TV set with a damaged remote. I wanted a replacement remote that would operate all of the features on my set, including the operation of the on-screen menus. This remote cost me $10 at a big box retailer and took less than five minutes to read the instructions and program it for my set, it was really easy as there was only one code for JVC and I didn't have to press the set button any harder than normal unlike the other reviews. The remote operated the set beautifully allowing me to move around the onscreen menus and change settings using the 4 arrow keys, operate the sleep function, change channels by number or channel up/down, change the TV input, mute, last channel recall, display the channel and time, and even use the picture in picture feature (although I only have one tuner). The remote looks and feels like an expensive remote that came with the TV rather than a cheap $10 universal remote. The ergonomics are terrific with large volume and channel up/down controls that are angled toward the center (a nice touch). Also, the 4 arrow keys are slightly raised and angled toward the center making in pleasant to slide your thumb over them. Even the color co-ordination of the remote and the keys are easy on the eyes. I verified that removing the batteries for a short period of time does not erase the memory, another nice feature. The remote does have some short comings. 1) It does not have a closed caption key which I think any remote should have. For this reason, I rated the remote 4 stars instead of 5. 2) My original TV remote had a special button to change the mode from bright room, choice, theater, etc. that this remote lacks. I have to use the keys on the TV set to change this. However, as long as I leave my set on choice, I can make all the changes I want to it using the remote, so that is fine. 3) The picture in picture has many functions using the rewind, play, fast forward, record, stop, and pause keys, but none of them can enlarge the small picture in picture window, a special feature on my set. I don't really care as I only have one tuner, but I thought I should mention it. 4) Although I don't use the other features like DVD, Cable Box, and VCR, I did notice that it did not have an auxiliary option for sound systems for those that have them.

This remote saved my nightstand space and has brought me great joy. I didn't have as much of an issue with the SET key as the other reviewers did, though I would recommend being a bit forceful with the buttons when programming items in. As far as other qualities are concerned, the remote is extremely durable, having been dropped on the hardwood floor no less than 30 times and still working perfectly. It has been on the same set of batteries for about 2 years now, and has never given me any trouble. It's a very solid remote control for a good price.

Not only can I not get this to work with my TV (I bought it because my old TV remote finally died), I can't even tell if anything's happening when I try to program it because of a lack of activity lights/indicators. As a rule, I like Sony products, but this one really stinks.

If you're looking for a good Universal Remote then this a good one to have. It has a number of programmable options. Sleek with a nice design.

This remote frustrated me at first as I could not get it to work with my RCA DirecTV receiver. Many people have reviewed this remote and said it simply wouldn't work with an RCA receiver. People, PLEASE read this part and TRY this. I looked past this and just assumed it would not work. First, reassign your sat/cable button and make sure you select satellite as the type for this button. THEN, go ahead and type in the code (002 worked for me). I literally spent hours searching for the code by hand on the remote and typing in every possible combination. Nothing worked. THEN I just happened to try reassigning the sat/cable button (instructions are in the manual) and it worked on the first try. I have read many people who give this remote bad reviews based on the fact they can't program it to work with their DirecTV (many on other sites). Hope this helps atleast someone. Anyways, this remote works great for my TV, VCR, DVD Recorder, and DirecTV. Great product once you get it set up correctly.

I got this for a Sony TV and some other (Panasonic) DVD/VCR and stuff cuz the remote i had (was an AV remote to control Receiver/cd player etc) confused the heck out of my dad.relatively easy to use.. and easy to program with codes in manual for other branded products. although there were some features of the panasonic DVD player i think i need to use the panasonic remote for. just dont expect to control audio component gear with it

I've not been happy with the service of this product. I do consider this partially my fault, as all the functions of the buttons are apparent through the display plastic (I purchased it off-the-shelf).This remote doesn't have 'skip' buttons, and was only partially comptaible with the Cyberhome system I purchased it for. Certain functions never worked (such as menu), and several functions worked differently each time I re-programed the remote. Still, it is a nice looking remote, and I might keep it in reserve for some other brand or item of equipment, should the need arise. If it proves to be more compatible with another brand, I might revise my review. |
