5.0 out of 5 stars Great for hot tub control
I have a hot tub with a Sony marine stereo built into the side. This means you can turn it on / off before you get in, but then you're stuck with whatever is on the radio.
I bought this unit, mounted it next to the tub in a gray weatherproof electrical box, ran conduit from the box to the stereo and voila! I can now turn it on / off, change the source, control...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
I bought this with a Sony marine stereo, they were listed as "bought together" in the past so I figured they went together. They were not compatible and the company refuses to return/refund. Do your homework before you buy. All Sony remotes do not work with all Sony products. Their ad should say that, and now they refuse to return.

I bought this unit, mounted it next to the tub in a gray weatherproof electrical box, ran conduit from the box to the stereo and voila! I can now turn it on / off, change the source, control volume and skip tracks on CDs without getting out of the tub. It came with a 20 foot extension for the main control cable, but I had to buy extensions for the red & black power cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Remote, April 20, 2011

Nice remote. Buttons are easy to use. Color shows up well at night. Install was simple and straight forward. I installed this unit on my swim platform of a 28 foot cabin cruiser boat. Cord was plenty long enough to go from cabin to rear of the boat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as suggested, July 22, 2011

The Sony wired remote is a necessary accessory to a Sony Marine Stereo if your stereo unit is tucked away as mine is. It works as the description suggests and there really were no surprises. Everything was packaged appropriately, including all the needed hardware. The instructions were short & sweet and also easy to read. (Not like there is a lot to this simple remote, so it would be hard to get that wrong.) The remote operates only the basic functionality of the stereo which is all I was looking for. So this is perfect for me.

Installing this remote was easy for me as the dashboard on my boat had an extra blank instrument cut out available the exact size needed for the remote. That tells you this is a standard size which is always nice... There are three things to hook up, first the common ground then the mini jack to the back of the stereo then the power supply to illuminate the remote. I haven't hooked up the power just yet as I wasn't expecting to. I need to find out what I can tap into so it's illuminated only when my running lights are on. I may never hook this up so I was very pleased to find out that the power supply is not necessary for the operation of the remote. (You don't need to hook up the power wire to use the remote.)

The remote is exposed to the element (Sun, Salt, and Water) and it operates just fine. For the price I picked this up from Amazon.com.... It's a no brainer. I recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remote RMX11M for Sony marine CDX-M30 radio/player, June 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony RMX11M Marine 2.5-Inch Splash-Proof Wired Remote Control (Electronics)
The Sony RMX11M wired remote control appears to now be discontinued from Sony, but some inventory still exists in the market. This is a compact unit that mounts in a standard 2" dash hole. The included cable, approximately 25', was adequate to run between the CDX-M30 stereo receiver in the main cabin and the flying bridge helm station. Installation was plug-and-play with no problems. In practice, it helps to turn on the main unit first and set up your bridge speakers since this remote lacks any display of which audio mode is currently selected. Otherwise, it is perfectly adequate for remote operation of the M30. The alternative remote with display costs as much as the main unit. If you are going that direction, you might just as well install another complete receiver system for the bridge. After several months, both the M30 and RMX11M are working flawlessly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Simply to large and thick, not fully compatible with PDCBLPAK, September 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony RMX11M Marine 2.5-Inch Splash-Proof Wired Remote Control (Electronics)
I recently purchased the SoundGate PDCBLPAK for my Harley to power and connect my iPod for on the road music. The SoundGate works great and was easily hard wired onto my bike. Since I also wanted to be able to remotely control the connected iPod music list I searched, to no avail, for the SoundGate REMCORE. SoundGate no longer manufacturers anything so this remote control is no longer available, even after contacting many resellers no one has a new or used unit in stock. So based on the user guide compatible list of remotes (pretty much only Sony branded units) I searched the list and this Sony RMX11M came up more prominently than others at a reasonable price. Bought it and it works OK just not fully compatible. The mode button is a stop/start button, the next and previous track work fine but the Vol+ and Vol- nor Off button do anything. The GP/ALBM seem to work by starting at the beginning of the music list, not the beginning of the current Group/Album. All in all I can get it to work enough for my needs but the glaring problem is the thing is HUGE :(

On a Harley or any motorcycle for that matter, space is limited unless you have a full dresser/bagger/fairing/saddlebags on your bike which I don't have except for the saddlebags which I only use for those long rides (like the 3300 mile ride I just took through 4 states). So I wanted a small and thin unit to mount in an obscure location that I could easily reach. Not so with this thing. The face itself isn't to big, I can work with it at 2.5" in diameter but the thickness is easily 1-3/4" thick. There is absolutely no where to mount/place this monstrosity :(

I will search for an alternative and return this unit, simply based on it's over sized enclosure. Unfortunately I searched high and low originally and this is what I came up with, so if I cannot find a replacement I will keep it and probably get a handlebar toolbag to mount behind my handlebar mounted speakers but within reach of my riders seat. Bummer I want to keep the minimal lines of my blacked out Harley Fat Bob and the speakers look great with my ape hangers but this remote size really is a problem :(

So this unit gets 3 stars primarily for its limited but usable compatibility, it lost out on the other 2 stars due to its very LARGE size which is not clearly outlined in the description which states: Product Dimensions: 7.1 x 4.6 x 3.1 inches ; 14.9 ounces, but I think this is the measurement for the box definitely not the unit!

Works pretty much as one might expect.

Some hints to make installing easier:

If you don't care about having lighted buttons at night, the electrical connectors are optional. Simply run the single control cable (included) through the boat to the compatible Sony stereo.

I used a 2 inch door knob drill in an open fiberglass panel space near the drivers position on the boat to make a perfect hole for mounting.

To run the cable, I first dropped the connected wire from the stereo position - inside the glove compartment - down to the center keel area inside the floor storage space. I then took several feet of fishing line and the heaviest lead weight from my fishing tackle box, dropped one end of the line down the side panel wiring hole from the drivers position, then retrieved it via the same center board storage space. Used some electrical tape to attach the end of the control cable to the lead weight and drew it back up through the same wiring access hole that my drivers control console used.

Be sure to use wire ties at both ends to prevent you from pulling the cable back out!

Wrapped the excess cable into a neat bundle and used a big dab of marine silicon to secure it up under the floorboard inside the storage locker to keep it out of the way.
