1.0 out of 5 stars Cool looks with lousy function!, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Sony VAIO RoomLink Network Media Receiver (PCNA-MR10) (Personal Computers)
In concept the Room Link is a brilliant idea. However, after hours of figuring out how to integrate this with the home network the benefit is disappointing! Sony products are indeed of Rolls-Royce quality however Sony manages to build in enough restrictions to result in Yugo functionality! The Room Link allows you to stream pictures from your PC/Laptop to TV only after you convert them into a useless Sony format and register them with media server. Effectively you use up twice as much space for the same pictures! You can only stream video you recorded with the Sony computer in Sony format!!! No possibility of streaming internet TV from PC/Laptop to TV, although that is lot les data than the Sony format!!! Music, as you might have guessed, has to be registered in Sony format! Yes, the Roon Link works but is so restrictive that it effectively NOT worth the money. It is that much more aggravating knowing that the technology unrestricted could be such much more!

I'll never buy a Sony product again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Annoying, December 18, 2004
This review is from: Sony VAIO RoomLink Network Media Receiver (PCNA-MR10) (Personal Computers)
I have a Sony computer, and was excited when I found this product. One of the biggest problems I have is whenever I record a show, I have to either watch it on the computer or burn onto a DVD to watch on a regular TV. It's a hassle. I didn't want even more wires running across the floor, so I was thrilled to learn this reciever would work wirelessly. Unfortunately that didn't happen. It's wireless ability simply did not exist, nor did the costumer support at Sony. It work fine when it was wired with real cable (not wirelessly). Needless to say, I've since returned the product for a full refund.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not fully compatible with MS XP Media Center, January 16, 2005

This review is from: Sony VAIO RoomLink Network Media Receiver (PCNA-MR10) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this device to link my new Vaio RA series PC to my home entertainment system. After several hours of trying, I found an article on Sony's web site stating the Live TV function would not work with this PC and the Microsoft XP Media Center operating system. Unfortunately, Sony had offered it as an accessory with the PC. The video, music and photo function worked fine but not the live TV. I'm sending it back. It is however, a really neat looking product.
