4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it is supposed to, August 11, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony SB-V40S A/V Selector with S-Video or Composite Video Connections (Electronics)
This is a good product but I cannot go all the way and say that it is great because I am not an audio/video nerd. I don't have a high quality digital TV to compare signal transfer with and without the selector. I have three DVD players and a MiniDV recorder connected to the selector. From what I can tell everything works just like it is supposed to. I don't have any noticable loss of either video or audit signal. I have used the selector for 6 months and I am happy with the convinience it gives me when I switch from one DVD player to another. The selector is a passive device and is not plugged into an electrical outlet. Neither does it have its own remote control (which I think is excessive anyway). It just does what it is supposed to do and does it well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Video switching made easy and retains video/audio quality, February 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony SB-V40S A/V Selector with S-Video or Composite Video Connections (Electronics)
It's simple, it's extremely light weight. No cables included, perhaps the description says so. Just wanted to mention that in case someone was expecting it too. I bought this for my son's room to allow them to switch between a PS1/PS2and a xbox360. It does it's job and there is zero quality reduction in doing it. Perhaps this is why it's a bit of a premium price for this swithcer. I put some cabinet door clear rubber bumpers on the bottom as it sits on a glass shelf and this keep it from moving. As it is, it has molded in plastic 'feet' and its so light, it just goes where ever the cables want it too. I'm considering getting a second unit for the family room to reduce the switching on the AV receiver when using composite video equipment. Kind of an odd color, not sure why they didn't make it black or silver. It sort of matches the Metal Gear Solid LE PS3 though, but not 100%.

Sony's switch worked just as described. I'm using it with component video cables, so I can't speak to the S-video connection, but it works fine with my cable, DVD, and Wii. The picture and sound are clear, the input and output jacks are clearly marked so it was easy to set up, and the fact that it doesn't need to be plugged in makes it all the more convenient.

Sony makes good hardware, that's no secret. And this little s-video switch is worth the price. It's solid, works like it should, and doesn't degrade the signal passing through it whatsoever. My only complaint is that the built in headphone jack included has no volume control slider or knob. That's kind of stupid when you have say a video game console feeding into the s-video switch, then you have no way to control the volume from the switch itself, and have to use an inline attenuator instead. Despite that, this is a quality s-video switch and it's worth the extra money to have Sony quality. The headphone jack issue has nothing to do with the RCA audio of course.

The video switch showed up quickly and was easy to install. I now have a VCR, DVD, N64 and WII all connected through one video input on the TV. Switching back and forth between components is quick and easy. Good Product.

This is very easy to setup and use. It is fairly small and fit nicely near our TV. We are now able to switch between our DVD player and Wii without fumbling with cords - just pushing a button. For those lazy moments - this device does not have a remote...but then again that is one less remote to loose :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, Easy, Simple, September 28, 2009

This review is from: Sony SB-V40S A/V Selector with S-Video or Composite Video Connections (Electronics)
This has made my life easier, doesn't take up space, doesn't use electricity and is in general what I would consider an elegant solution to a common problem. I love this little box. It took no time at all to set up and makes taking apart or changing my setup so much easier now. I don't have to worry about what went directly to the tv, what went to the vcr, etc. I completely eliminated a coax splitter/switch. It's just made everything nicer.

It's easy to use and my six year old has no problem switching to the right item when we want to play wii or watch a dvd, etc.

I wish more electronics components were this nice to work with.

5.0 out of 5 stars S-Video Mechanical Switch, August 31, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony SB-V40S A/V Selector with S-Video or Composite Video Connections (Electronics)
The product met my fundamental requirement of being able to switch mechanically (electronically would have been better) multiple S-Video/Sound sources. I did NOT measure signal loss, but, there is certainly no perceptible degradation of video/sound quality.

I am a lover of old school consoles. The Sony Selector made it easy to connect all my gaming systems into one port on the back of my Sony television, making it much easier to go from game to game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a good product., January 23, 2012

The Sony SB-V40S does exactly what it is supposed to do. Overall build quality is good and I do not see any degradation of signal input into my TV. The switches work well and are easy to use. I would give it 5 stars if it was $10 cheaper.
