4.0 out of 5 stars Sony TFT LCD Monitor SDM-M51
Just purchased this 15" LCG monitor and love it. I replaced a Sony CRT 17" and found the viewable area to be equal to the CRT. Colors are brilliant and text sharp. Plug and play, with no need to utilize any additional software. At 9# and slim depth my Desktop looks like a desk again. Set at 1024x768 32bit true color. I could'nt be more pleased

1.0 out of 5 stars ... this monitor!
This monitor WILL die (average life span is about 1 and 1/2 years). Sony WILL NOT replace it (they will only offer to refurbish it). Mine is going, going, gone. It fades to white then colored horizontal and vertical lines. Obvious mass defect in this model. I've seen so many articles online from unhappy Sony customers. You've been warned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony does not disappoint, January 27, 2001

Like the other reviewer, I initially had a difficult time getting the resolution that I had gotten in a previously owned LCD monitor. I quickly learned that I had the refresh rate set too low for the screen size that I had selected. Once I boosted the refresh to 75, everything fell into place. The image is bright, crisp, and very clear. I use this monitor as one of two that I use for photo editing. The picture quality is often better than my Sony Trinitron monitor. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Very slim and stylish. Just how a 21st century monitor should look. I bought this LCD for my home and chose this model in particular because I wanted a lighter, thinner, more elegant monitor... a monitor that you'd actually want to look at... a conversation piece. This model in particular is just that. It's like picking up a picture frame, rather than a 17" TV. OK, maybe it doesn't have many bells and whistles, didn't get #1 best anything, or isn't even the best value. But who cares? I paid the extra to get this one over the cheaper ones because it just looks so cool and it's less than 2 inches thick, so pleasing to the eye. All the other cheaper LCDs are too bulky in appearance and still look like a CRT from the front.

A tremendous purchase in the crowded LCD market. The monitor was very easy to setup and the controls are easy to use. The picture quality is excellent and for the money, I would recommend this product.

Love this monitor - it is built solid and has never once fizzled out on me. I recommend this monitor for anyone who has kids or just wants a solid built monitor that can withstand an F5 tornado

2.0 out of 5 stars Problems, July 18, 2005
This review is from: Sony SDM-M51 15" LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This monitor has great colors and it is very sharp... for an early model for LCD monitors. However after 1-2 years it starts to have problems, problems such as screen fading to different colors or turning Black. Yes there is a unofficial way to fix this, but it is very risky. Over my four years of experience with this monitor(It was around $700 cda when the monitor came out) , the fading of the monitor will become more frequent, if it Happens just squeeze different parts of the monitor until the screen becomes normal. This monitor is not suitable for viewing dark objects and pictures, because it will not show up at all. If you are planning to use this monitor for gaming, when dealing with darker areas you will see nothing but black, there is no way to fix it. As a result of the problems, I am planning to buy the Sony SDM-HS95P/S 19" LCD Monitor. Overall, this monitor is decent, however I would not suggest anyone to purchase this monitor unless if it becomes very cheap in price in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best computer purchase I ever made., November 12, 2001
By
This review is from: Sony SDM-M51 15" LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I upgraded just about everything on my computer, but this monitor was without a doubt my best purchase. Gone is the enormous 17" CRT that dominated my desk. Now I have a beautiful thin, space saving LCD screen and all kinds of free desk space. The image is outstanding. I'm driving the monitor with a Radeon 7500, and my 3D games look great. Text is crisp and clear and easy to read. I don't see any screen imperfections at all. Let me say again, best computer purchase I have ever made. I could not be happier.
