Sony's family of DDS tape drives delivers cost effective solutions for backing up and archiving large amounts of data in small to mid-sized computer systems, workstations and small networks. This model, the SDT-D9000/PB External Tape Drive, offers 12 GB capacity (with no compression) and 24 GB capacity (with 2:1 compression), and a sustained data transfer rate of 2.4 MB per second. The unit is read and write compatible with all DDS-3, DDS-2 and DDS-1 tape formats, and features Sony’s Super Head Cleaner mechanism to lessen the frequency of periodic cleanings and a Sony Hyper Metal Head to reduce error rates by up to ten times that off conventional ferrite MIG heads.
The package includes both software and hardware accessories to get your new DDS-3 drive up and running. The software bundle features a full working version of Veritas Backup Exec Desktop Solution for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT systems. Also bundled is a 60-day live trial version of Veritas Backup Exec Single/Multi Server edition for Windows NT/2000 and Novell NetWare. Hardware accessories include a Sony 125 m DDS-3 data cartridge, a DDS cleaning cartridge, an AC power cord, and a passive SCSI terminator.
