I purchased the Sony SH-L32W LCD Hood for my Sony FX 1000. I do a lot of shooting out doors at the beach and the bright sun renders the LCD useless most of the time.
The SH-L32W is easy to use and slides on and off easily. Its sturdy and folds flat for storage. Unfortunately even with the sun shade the LCD is still difficult to view in bright sunlight at the beach. A big part of the problem is the LCD has a polished finish which reflects light back like any shiny surface does in bright sun light. It did not solve my problem at the beach but helps in most other situations..

Almost $50 for a LCD hood? Are you crazy? Those were my original thoughts when I saw the price of this thing. This from someone who has now spent nearly $6K for a HVR-Z5U, the CF card unit, matte kit and rails, rain cover, etc. And, this doesn't count the cost of el cheapo hoods that didn't work and an expensive Hoodman that was close, but no cigar. I'd read some reviews claiming this hood was just cheap stuff and and not well made. I need something that works and will stand up to the out of doors and constant handling because most of my shooting is outside of the studio and the sun plays havoc on the viewfinder. The Sony hood did the trick. Even if it only last a few months (it will last much longer than that) it is worth every dime. It fits perfectly, is well made, and stays on the viewfinder (just reverse the LCD) when the camcorder is stored. Finally, a LCD hood that works for the Z5.

Works great if using the LCD Display. Helps in framing nights shots, A must for day use, and better under a provided canopy. Folds down nicely, slips on with ease, and a snug fit. Attractive, and performs!
