Product Description

Effective and Efficient Remote Network Monitoring – The SNC-RZ25*1 Offers MPEG-4 or JPEG Compression and PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) in a Single Package. Introducing the Sony SNC-RZ25, MPEG-4/JPEG network camera with a PTZ capability packaged in a sleek and stylish body. The SNC-RZ25 is ideal for web casting and remotemonitoring applications used almost anywhere – from airports to train stations, factories to supermarkets, and from street corners in small towns to big cities. Remote monitoring over a network has never been easier. With the SNC-RZ25, set up is simple, and more cost effective than conventional CCTV systems. This is because the network infrastructure is often already in place or can be easily installed. Once the network connection is established, images from the camera can be efficiently streamed over the network. MPEG4 is well suited for streaming images over limited bandwidths. If higherquality still images are required, then the industry-standard JPEG compression is available. The SNC-RZ25 also has a PTZ capability, allowing camera movements and the 18x optical zoom to be controlled from a PC using a standard web browser. The viewer has a unique feature that allows you to control the camera simply by clicking on the panorama image. Packed full of features including, a "Day/Night" function, audio monitoring, network and wireless, alarm functions and more, the SNC-RZ25 is the perfect MPEG-4 PTZ network camera for your remote monitoring and web casting applications.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent camera, but no power supply included, July 17, 2008

This review is from: Sony SNC-RZ25N MPEG-4/JPEG Network Camera with PTZ Capability, 18x Zoom (Electronics)
Pros

Pretty good image quality, although it has more jagged edges than I'd like to see for this price camera

Responsive pan/tilt/zoom

Good night image

Flipped images stay flipped (for when you have the camera on a desktop rather than hanging upside down) when FTP'd (my Toshiba IK-WB21A does not ftp flipped images, so if you have that camera on a desk instead of upside down, all images that are FTPd to an external server will be upside down).

Ability to customize own webpage on the camera (but also a con because no information on how to get camera info into your own webpage)

Cons

This thing is HUGE. It's about 4x the size of my Toshiba IK-WB21A.

Does not come with a power supply. Luckily I had a 24 volt transformer on hand, so I was able to fire the thing up. You can use either 24V AC or 12V DC.

The IP setup utility was very buggy. Kept saying that it lost connection when I told it to reboot, so had a hard time rebooting the camera with the new IP address. Once set, web based setup went smoothly.

Can't change the default power-up position. Also can't limit pan/tilt range.

No captions for FTPed images.

Documentation is pretty lame. No information on how to get camera image or pan/tilt control outside of the built in webserver. Also having trouble googling info on this camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, June 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony SNC-RZ25N MPEG-4/JPEG Network Camera with PTZ Capability, 18x Zoom (Electronics)
I was using a D-Link PTZ camera and was dissapointed with the quality and reliabilty. I did a lot of research and choose this camera. It has not let me down since I purchased it in Nov 2006. No lockups freezes or operational problems. The motion detection and web access controls are first rate compared to the D-link system. The only thing I would give a lower rating is the motion detection. It could be more reliable under low lux conditions.
