The Sony SPPA946 offers the combined conveniences of a 900 MHz cordless phone with a built-in digital answering system. The analog 900 MHz reception means that you can take the handset even farther away from that base than you normally would with an older phone operating on a lower band, and you will still get clear, reliable reception. The speakerphone capability means that you can converse without the handset, by speaking directly into the base. Use the two-way paging/intercom feature to send an audible signal from the base to the handset and vice versa, so you can summon a coworker or family member, locate the handset, or converse between handset and base. The SPPA946 also offers 20 preset speed-dials for easy two-button dialing. The built-in digital answering system manages three mailboxes, enabling family members or coworkers to access their own voice messages separately. The answering system also offers time/date stamping, memo recording, and remote message retrieval.

Features on this phone are great - that is until you try to use the (easy to implement) features. For the phone - unless you talk directly into the microphone, you won't be heard on the other end. Does not seem to be capable of picking up voice unless directly aimed at the mike. As for the answering machine - it works pretty well but if you want to record an outgoing message you might as well be talking into a tuna can. The voice quality is awful - reminds me of some of the first answering machines ten or fifteen years ago. My recommendation is that you pass on this turkey unless you want to send it back for exchange.

everything about the phone is bad. the answering system, the voiceon the answering system, the ability to fast forward through messages...go waste your money on something better than this!

I have had three of these phones brought to me for repair because the charging circuit goes bad and drains the battery.
