4.0 out of 5 stars A Good deal
I own one of these little guys. It's fabulous! I think it is a great gadget. I wear it in the office. I can listen to my music without interupting others and I can tune others out as well.

I only have a few complaints. The head gear is adjustable for length, but not width. After wearing the head piece for a few hours it feels a bit tight on the ears. However, this...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Sound, Bad Stability
Ask yourself why you want this radio? If it is just to listen to radio at the desk or while watching a ball game then it is great, 5 stars. Great FM capture, solid sound. 2AA, versus AAA, gives superior power. BUT, if you are a runner, like myself, then look elsewhere. It just dosen't have the stability to hold up to jogging. First the adjustable headband dosen't lock in position enough to hold it on your head. Second the AA bateries that improve the sound, over the non-sport Sony Headphone, weighs down that side and causes the unit to fall from the head. Finally, the speaker pads click constantly while you run and after a mile it gets really annoying. I really wanted this one to work. I prefer headphone radios over armband for running and this would be my 4th unit. Sweat and salt rust out the speakers over time and I hoped that this model would prevent that. Unfortunately, it just dosen't hold up to jogging like other headphones. I really don't think they tested this thing on runners.

2.0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment, February 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony SRFHM55 Sports Walkman AM/FM Stereo Headphone Radio (Electronics)
The part of the headphones that touch your ears is made of HARD PLASTIC. No cushioning at all, and sadistically uncomfortable. They also make a constant clicking sound when you walk or job. It's a shame, because otherwise this is a good product with a very good radio tuner.

I only have a few complaints. The head gear is adjustable for length, but not width. After wearing the head piece for a few hours it feels a bit tight on the ears. However, this can not be adjusted. The sound is quite good considering how small the device is. Don't be surprised if you can not receive some stations indoors. This radio is not that powerfull. Also note that the ear pieces that actually fit on your ears are very delicate. They seem to be hanging by a fine piece of plastic. "Do not drop this item on the floor" the ear pieces break off and can not be re attached. "sigh"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, October 27, 2000

I have been using one for over 5 years. The outdoor reception is great. The indoor reception fades at times. I dropped mine 2 weeks ago and broke the battery cover. Even after 5 years I can't find a better headset to buy than this one.

great sound quality and reception, double headbands may not secure enough for jogging but are great otherwise, station presets and clock are great features.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this product & came here to buy a new one!, September 13, 2006
This review is from: Sony SRFHM55 Sports Walkman AM/FM Stereo Headphone Radio (Electronics)
Mine lasted for over 7 years and served me well for 100s of runs and dozens of baseball games. Eventually the headband cracked and the batteries didn't stay tight enough to conduct electricity, but it served me well.

What's the next best product of this type available today?

I have mowed grass and done yard work wearing these headphones for years and have loved them since I got them. The strap around the back of the head keeps them snugly in place even when I'm bent over.

I can't stand devices that go in your pocket and then have headphones with cords since when I'm working around the house the cord always gets snagged on things, so these are just perfect!

I am a jogger and run both rain and shine. I purchased my Sony SRFHM55 headphones over 10 years ago. It has suited my needs fine; comfortable to wear; stable on the head; highly adjustable with good sound quality on both AM and FM. Volume could be a little louder as sometimes it's hard to follow talk radio while running along side (uphill) motor traffic. One thing it's not is waterproof. It will withstand about 15 minutes of heavy rain before the signal and controls break down. Then it's a case of drying the headphones out over a period of a week or so - depending on how wet it gets, after which you have to re-tune in the radio stations. After 10+ years of use it's beginning to show some wear 'n' tear. One of the ear pad liners fell off; one of the speakers is no longer working and one of the two tuning button, i.e. the forward tuning button, is no longer working. Luckily for me it's the left side speaker that no longer works given that I suffer from SSD (single sided deafness)...in the left ear :-)

2.0 out of 5 stars The visual and performance of this radio is very poor, July 19, 2011
This review is from: Sony SRFHM55 Sports Walkman AM/FM Stereo Headphone Radio (Electronics)
I bought this on New Years 2006 and I used it for 5 years already and the radio got static after one or two years. It lasts good on alkaline batteries but it doesn't indicate correctly like it does it in random. The battery cap could easily slide off and I have to put all my data in again. The radio isn't loud enough (but it has AVLS thats the good thing) when I go outside. Plus, this radio is uncomfortable to use. This radio comes with less presets only 5 FM and 5 AM. Come on, I need more presets Sony you could do better than that. Plus, the weak stations comes to another station that maybe strong enough for the real station. Also, it got thrown out in the trash because I got in trouble back in May because I wasnt where I was supposed to be after leaving the Saturday Academy. Look it was 5 years of use after the 2nd or 3rd year of use like I said the ears were static. I rate this radio poor (2 stars).

I have always been a believer in Sony products, these am/fm headphones are no exception! There is a definite reason why I have a houseful of Sony products, great companies deserve accolades of the highest degree!
