5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful
With two small (5.7 cm diameter) yet powerful drivers, the SRS-Z510 delivers deep bass sounds that rivals speakers twice its size. The mini speaker cones are highly responsive to low frequencies, vibrating ferociously to bass tones and drum beats at high volume yet barely produce any audible distortions. This review is from: Sony SRS-Z510 Personal Active Speakers with 7 Watts of Power (Personal Computers)
The treble is a little mellow by comparison, but overall the Z510 offers a very well balanced sound.

However, due to the high current demand of the Z510, the supplied AC/DC adaptor weighs like a brick. The bigger transformer magnet is needed to produce the high 1A current to drive those powerful speakers.

If you are the kind who hates the sound of squeaky satellites but cannot stand the sight of a subwoofer lurking under your PC table and do not mind not getting earth quaking bass tones from your sound card / audio players, this is the unit to look out for.

All I can say is WOW. The sound is very rich for such a small speaker. I was blown away. I was very reluctant but am happy with my purchase. Definitely a recommended item if you are looking for something similar.

I bought these for my laptop, at first I thought they were horrible until I figured out that I had to configure my laptop for external speakers, haha. Once I did that the sound was excellent. the quality of these speakers is awesome. They are the perfect size. I'm very happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!, February 12, 2010
This review is from: Sony SRS-Z510 Personal Active Speakers with 7 Watts of Power (Personal Computers)
I was really surprised by how good these little speakers sound. They blow my old Logitech speakers away. Good bass and I really like the small size. A little pricy though.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony SRS-Z510 Personal Active Speakers with 7 Watts of Power (Personal Computers)
I was looking for a good compromise between the sound of a 3 piece (subwoofer)system and a 2 piece system and I think I found it!
For my personal use at work, I definitively do not want a subwoofer under my desk, but I want decent bass output. Most 2 piece systems lack bass simply due to audio physics; they are too small and light. That's why subwoofers are bigger and heavier.
This very nice product from Sony delivers very acceptable bass sound and volume to satisfy my expectations. They are small but the enclosure is designed to be deep(aprox.5inches), and tall(aprox.7 inches), to allow the air inside to reverberate enough to create the "woof" needed for bass, which comes out of a well designed opening just below the cones.
I don't think it can match a 3 piece system in bass output, but these little things rock me enough!
It also has a front headphones port, in case you want to explode your head with sound, without annoying your coworkers(or your wife)!
If you're like me, and don't want a subwoofer on the floor, this is a definite great purchase!
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it suffers a little bit from the lack of treble, which can be easily compensated with your iTunes equalizer controls. Mine are on a Mac G5.
I know nothing about PC's, but I am sure you can also equalize the sound to your taste in Windows, I hope.
Buy with confidence...you won't be dissapointed!

If you are looking for a pair of active speakers for your PC or MP3 player, look no further. This is the one to get. The sound is exceptionally good and amazing.

I am not a fan of Sony, but they got it right for this one!
