Perfect for my situation,
By
This review is from: Sony SRSBT100 Bluetooth Stereo Speakers (Electronics)
About a week in and this speaker is exactly what I was looking for. And here is what I was looking for:
Both my wife and I have LG enV2 phones, which have an MP3 player, small onboard speakers, a 2.5mm jack (smaller, non-standard size), and support bluetooth stereo. We love to flip it open and have on-the-fly, decent sounding music through the onboard speakers (tinny sound, but loud). We also share a pair of Motorola Rokr S9 bluetooth headphones that we wear on the go, to work out, run, etc. and we love that as well. So the last thing we needed to run our entire world of music from our phones was a bluetooth speaker to station in our living room for better open-air sound than the phone's onboard speakers. Well, this is it! Pairing the speaker to the phones was perfectly straightforward, as is connecting for each use. You can either turn the speaker on each use and it just finds the phone and is ready to go, or you can leave the speaker on all the time and connect/drop with the phones. We do the latter for two reasons: 1) When you turn on the speaker and both our phones are around, it's random which phone it connects to (an issue with our diverging musical tastes!) and 2) We have it tucked away on a hard-to-get-to shelf. Aesthetically speaking, it's very sleak-looking, not too big (or small I guess -- looks high-end, very Bose-like). The sound is strong considering it's bluetooth. Bass hangs in there, though it didn't blow me away. It certainly destroys the tinny sound of the enV2's onboard speakers. The sound fills the room rather than the "blaring from the counter" effect, just the difference we were hoping for. I found it just a little pricey, but because it was the missing link for us to do all our music off of our phones I never thought twice. So all that said, for our situation, it's a clear 5 stars. As for other reviews I'm reading, I don't doubt them. We have no other bluetooth devices around to get crossed with this, but I've heard plenty of stories about ANY two bluetooth devices in close proximity not playing nice. Also, I wouldn't bother with this product if I was going to use it for any stationary music source, like a reciever or computer, unless I was really desperate to get it across the room without a cord. The bit I read about walls impeding the connection is true -- same for us but not an issue, we just leave the phone sitting in the same room. But in the future we might double it's use: it does come with a corded input and might make a nice center channel if we took this room in that direction. Or it might be a decent upgrade in sound over our TV's onboard speakers and I may try that. The corded input was smart, you never know what you might do with it. As another reviewer with bluetooth contention issues noted, it could salvage it if you give up on the bluetooth. If I had to pick on it, I would say it might be nice to be able to run it off batteries. While for now we keep it stationary, the cordless nature of it would make it perfect to pick up off the shelf and take anywhere, but, you'll always need an outlet. It would also be nice if the left/right speakers were separate and I could split them into separate corners of the room. But of course then you'd need the phone to talk to both speakers, or to one speaker and then that speaker to stream to the other, which would then present timing issues. Bluetooth just isn't there yet. So, I'd recommend highly if your situation is similar. But think it through if you have more constraints, you may want to let bluetooth mature some more.

Wonderful Sound!,
This review is from: Sony SRSBT100 Bluetooth Stereo Speakers (Electronics)
This Bluetooth device works very fine! It's easy to pair with the computer and rarely gets out of sync, but from time to time, it happens. The sound is so rich, and the bass is very loud. The device dos not have many controls in itself, so you have to configure or equalize the sound in the computer, wich is no problem at all. Very nice product. Sony Rocks!

Interference with other bluetooth devices...,
By
This review is from: Sony SRSBT100 Bluetooth Stereo Speakers (Electronics)
I bought this liking the idea that this speaker was wireless. Though, I was concerned that if I had another bluetooth device running that the signal would get lost or begin to interfere. I asked several places.( B&H, Apple store, Best Buy, online threads) They all said that there should be no interference and bluetooth should work smoothly with two or more devices running. This turned out to be false. I use a bluetooth wacom tablet and every time I try to use it with the speaker, the sound or the mouse begins to glitch. I tried many variations, including just using the bare apps necessary, thinking the computer's running too many programs. Nope. You cant use two streaming bluetooth signals at once and have it be seamless. Also, this device is very sensitive to walls , if you have any walls inbetween your computer and this speaker, chances are it won't play. On the upside, the sound is quality and has good bass for it's size. But if you leave it on without running music, it will hiss very loudly. The biggest frustration is the bluetooth interference b/c that was my main concern before buying it.

So far so good,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sony SRSBT100 Bluetooth Stereo Speakers (Electronics)
So far i've been impressed with these speakers. The quality and quantity of speakers on the market for MP3 players other than the bloody IPOD is quite poor, i have the new Sony Walkman 8Gb so decided to stick to Sony. So far they are great, music quality is good through cable or bluetooth, was easy to connect. Bass is very good for those you you that like dance music, I'm more a fan of Matchbox twenty, Killers, etc etc and the balance is good, I've heard alot of speakers that have been more expensive, and half a far worse sound then these. They are maybe a bit biger than normal speakers, but I think that gives a quality feel.
Overall I've very happy with my purchase!

The sound is not that great and I get a lot of interference from my bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I would not recommend this product.

Better Sounding Than Logitech Z515 and Creative D100,

I originally purchased the Logitech Z515. The Z515 could not handle sound too well especially with higher volume setting. Virtually no bass with the Z515. Decided to get the Creative D100 instead. The D100 sounded a lot better than the Z515 but I kept on having disconnection issues. I did not have this issue with the Z515. I have read numerous positive reviews about the Sony BT100. I decided to purchase the BT100 in order to replace the D100. I have been amazed by the sound quality. It is significantly better than both the Z515 and D100. It puts out clear sound with good amount of bass. It pretty much has been able to handle anything I have thrown at it with no problem. The sound fills the room similar to some Bose units. It is a much larger speaker than both other speakers. I was able to connect in a few seconds to my Droid X and also my laptop. It has not had any connection issues at all. This speaker is not made to be a portable speaker like the Z515 and D100. There is no battery option like the D100 or rechargeable battery like the Z515. This speaker is more of a shelf speaker since it is larger in size and has no portability features. If you are looking for a portable bluetooth speaker, I suggest the D100. If you do not need a portable speaker but want excellent sound with bluetooth connection, this is probably one of the best sounding bluetooth speakers on the market.

I use this speaker in the kitchen so my (or my friends) portable music players can plug in or my laptop (or my wifes) can stream music directly. Either way it suits my needs very well, flexible and simple. The sound is good and the bluetooth hookup was very simple.
I have a single complaint - it does not remember its volume setting between power cycles. I have to turn the volume up every time. Besides my single complaint I have been very satisfied with this bluetooth enbled speaker and recommended it.

SONY delivers again,

After looking for a device that would allow me to use my LG phone to broadcast my music I was happy to find the SRSBT100. It works exactly as described and has great sound.
I agree with other reviews it would be an asset to have an output, also to make it more portable I thought a 12 volt option would be nice. Overall a very nice unit!

Although this comment warrants a lengthy response, I'll have to keep it brief. I purchased this speaker system under the hopes that it would deliver rich, full, balanced sound (mostly for music but also movies). The bottom line is these speakers don't perform. They don't live up to their name brand, or the 30W power they supposedly output. Sound lacks detail, is shallow, and annoyingly digitized (both connected as bluetooth or using inline audio cable). Particularly irritating is the shrill, vibrating treble and dulled down, synthesized bass. If you are looking for livable sound quality, i strongly advise looking elsewhere for bluetooth speakers.

It's good, but would like some things different,

I have a Sony VGN-FW465, and a Nokia cell phone both with blue tooth capability. Havn't tried the phone yet, but it sounds great with my laptop. I followed the directions and paired the two then set the sound default to the "Blue tooth headset" If you have audio going you must close it then reopen for it to switch to the new device. Again though once set up sounds great. Very clear and rich for a 30 watt speaker-box. My one complaint is that the the AVRCP (remote volume control) for this unit is not supported by my computer. Since it doesn't come with a remote I have to turn it up and down with the button on top manually.
On a side note I am not sure why battery life is a measurable attribute on here. the device comes with a 12v adapter, but does not run on batteries. |
