Great Little Speakers,
By
This review is from: Sony SS-MB150H Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) (Electronics)
These are great soundings little speakers for the price. The frequency range sounds fairly flat through it's advertised range 80MHZ-50KHZ. The highs don't roll off at 20KHZ like some cheaper speakers due to the extended range tweeter. This is important if you listen to any piano or electronic type music that produce frequencies in that range.
The bass frequency response is good for it's size, but you will want to add a subwoofer if these are your main speakers. They do not sound good if you turn up the bass and play them too loudly. For surrounds though, these speakers are exellent. The larger diameter woofer will allow you to low pass the frequncy being fed to these speakers at a lower range, which is essential for creating a richer surround effect. Too small of a speaker necessitates crossing the bass over to the sub at too high of a frequency for my tastes, and in addition to ruining the localization effect can make male voices sound too boomy without some tweaking. I've never been a fan of those all-in-one systems like Bose with the array of tiny satellites and single bass module, besides being way over-priced, they just don't sound as good to me as larger speakers do. And while even these little Sony speakers can't go toe-to-toe with a larger bookshelf or tower, you can create a pretty nice system for a whole lot cheaper than Bose or comparable brand by adding a few of these together with a sub. One caveat, these speakers are not pre-made to wall mount. They have no keyhole or mounting screw made into the back. If you wish to mount them on the ceiling or wall, you will have to drill into the back of the speaker with wood or metal tapping screws to attach a mount. It's not really a big deal, but some people may find that intimidating. It would be nice if Sony would have added that feature; however, you can always put them on stands.

Excellent Quality for the Money,

I needed some small speakers for an apartment and am so glad I found these. I went to Best Buy and tested speakers for about an hour. These were the best speakers for the price which is why they were probably all sold out. I checked out Amazon, and their price was ten bucks cheaper than Best Buy - plus the shipping was free! You can't go wrong with the crystal clear highs, no hissing, and surprising bass from these little speakers...definitely two thumbs up.

Well worth the money. Less than $50 well spent!,

I hooked these up as the rear or effects speakers. I find them to be way superior to the ones that came with my set up and better than most that I've seen recently in the stores for twice the price. As effects speakers, you absolutely won't go wrong. I wouldn't shy from using a pair with a smaller "book shelf" system as the front pair either.
Paired with Sony's SS-MB350H 8" 3-Way 120-Watts Bookshelf Speakers, I am very pleased and plan to add a Sony sub woofer soon. My wife and I fought over using larger speakers and this was the compromise that seemed to work.

I paired these with a 10" Athena sub to replace some very old Boston Acoustics A150 three ways I bought back in the 80's. Well, I got what I paid for. These are functional speakers, but there is no clarity. When I originally bought my A150's 20 years ago, I compared the Boston Acoustic 2 way (A100) to the 3 way and noticed a vocal clarity difference in the 150's. Well, I just lost it. These little speakers have crisp tweeters, but the pseudo-woofer just can't reproduce midrange elements (vocal, piano, etc). I'll keep these speakers since they are pretty cheap and can be used elsewhere. Now I need to find some similar sized speakers that will bring back the vocal clarity I just lost. Guess I need to get a crowbar and pry open my wallet. Or, honestly, go to a local store and do a listen test. That's the only way to do an honest comparison. I wonder if I can find a little pair of 3 ways...

Good as Surround Speakers,

These speakers don't hit the low lows but they work well for surround speakers and for 60 bucks it's not a bad deal. Throw in a sub with them and you could have yourself a full range system.

My husband and I just love these speakers. We replaced out old Aiwa speakers with these and could not believe the sound difference. We watched a movie we had watched before with the old speakers and heard sounds we had never heard before. We would highly recommend these speakers to anyone.

For the price I paid, and I am not a professional musician, these speakers were very good!

these are just fine when used in conjunction with a separate subwoofer. they replaced a very fine set of ads monitors that I had for years and I haven't noticed any loss of sound. plus they are priced very well and take up so little room. definitely would buy again.

I've got three pairs of these and love the sound. I like a lot of base and these little units really pump it out! Let's face it, if you are looking for reference quality sound you will need to spend a whole lot more money than these cost!

These are great little speakers. They have a small footprint and have a great balanced sound. They work great as stand alone speakers. I'm not sure I would pick them for a surround sound environment, but if you need stand-alone speakers with a small footprint, these are great.
