These are your temporary speakers.
on September 7, 2011
I'll keep this review brief. A couple of years ago, I bought these speakers to replace a set of 4-way tower speakers in the same Sony line, which I bought solely on specs for the price. After extended use, I was never satisfied with them in a home theater or music listening environment. They sound deep and muddy unless you angle them to your ears just right. Needless to say, they cannot fill a room with high quality sound.
Reasons to buy these speakers:
Electronic and bassy music sounds fair.
You can probably get away without having a powered subwoofer with these.
Reasons to avoid:
Highs aren't clear or spacious.
Too directional without much separation.
Final thoughts: If you listen to music with real instruments or want your movies to sound lifelike, these speakers will leave you craving more. No amount of acoustic treatments will help these speakers sound excellent, but they're pretty good temporary speakers if you're not sure what you're looking for and need a year or two to find the sound you're looking for.
