[4.5] because the tough plastic mounted underneath which secures the hand grip is a bit bulky for me..but i can live with that. The positives: Let me start off by saying the leather part used in here "smells" expensive because only genuine leather is used unlike the cheaper imitation. If you still want to use a neck strap with this, it is still possible with the extra metal holder on top. YES, battery compartment is still accessible, and YES there is still a hole if you want to mount this on a tripod, and another YES you can attach this even if you have those Vertical Grip (length strap is adjustable, and hides excess strap inside with Velcro)

I got this as a Christmas gift and was eager to try it out on my camera. I attached it to the camera and slid my hand in but it did not feel right. The camera was secure but I could not move my fingers to reach the shutter button. If I slid my hand out a bit so I could reach the shutter button the strap was no longer tight. I tried loosening the strap but that did not help, although I could reach the controls it still felt weird and was not tight enough to provide any support while holding the camera and it did not make it feel any more secure. However my dad tried using the camera with the strap and he thought it was fine, I think his hands are meatier than mine so the strap was tighter on him yet his fingers could still reach the controls. The build quality is excellent and they seem to have thought of everything with the tripod mound and ability to use it with the battery grip, but I do not think the fit is right for everyone. My suggestion is to try it first or buy it from a store with a good return policy, Amazon included, so you can return it if it does not work for you.

I've been using this for about 6 months... when I first installed it (super easy installation) I wasn't sure if I would like it or not, but I quickly got used to sliding my hand through it and I LOVE it now!!! I never use my neck strap anymore simply because with this product, it stays snugly and securly on my hand. It also makes the camera and my hand much steadier when I use my heavy Carl Zeiss lens. I definitely recommend this product!!!

the construction on the strap itself seems quite rugged though the black plastic adapter for cameras without the vertical grip, does seem rather cheap.

While you are walking around you can't deny the firm grip you have with this strap on it. Between the camera's ergonomics and this to just give you that little extra support the grip feels tight but not uncomfortable.

You do have to get used to operating your shutter release differently because of the grip, I have to use the second part of my index finger to fire the shutter with the grip which took some adjusting. It's just the way the strap fits onto the frame, you have to reach your fingers around the strap to fire.

I like that they have a built in means to attach a neck or shoulder strap.

overall though it does it's job, it creates a firm hand hold.

I am new to the world of DSLRs and just recently purchased a Sony A55 (technically not a DSLR, I know) and while I was very happy with the features and picture quality of the camera, I felt a little insecure about handling the camera itself due to the smaller than average size of the body (compared to other DSLRs) and my big hands. My pinky pretty much hangs free from the camera and I have to curl it under the camera base to feel any sense of security in gripping the camera. Putting the neck strap on helped to alleviate some of my nervousness but to me it feels awkward. Also, I just purchased a bag insert for my favorite day-pack (the Cameroo Compact II - which fits the A55 perfectly) and wanted to be able to get my camera in and out quicky to take shots without getting tangled.

After some research, I decided to try out the Sony Genuine Leather Grip Belt. I went with the Sony brand instead of a third-party item because I wanted something of good, reliable quality that fits and attaches to my camera as well as possible - after all, I don't want my hand strap falling apart on me while using my expensive new camera.

So far, I am very happy with my purchase as it firmly secures the camera to my large hand and I no longer feel nervous holding the camera. I can open my hand a little and loosen my grip while I frame my shots now - no more sweaty hands and white-knuckled aiming. Also, because of the relatively small attachment to the base of the camera, I can easily access the battery/SD card compartment, still attach the camera to a tripod, and the camera + strap still fits easily into my camera bag insert. Sure it no longer makes the base flat so it does make the camera tip over and lean on the lens when you put it down, but I bought a cheap Rocketfish UV lens filter and a cheap RainbowImage 55mm lens hood to protect the front end of the camera so I wouldn't have to worry so much about that. And if I really needed to, unscrewing the simple attachment is not a big deal.

If you want to feel secure in handling your Sony A55, I highly recommend this product!

I Love This Belt Grip, Comes In very Handy, Expecially With Bigger Lenses, You Can Use with or without the Shoulder Strap. I Preffer not using the shoulder strap.. Nice feal And Nice quality..
i recommend this to everyone with a Sony DSLR...
I use it on the 350 and its way more reasurring, expecially when i hand my camera over to someone else knowing they wont drop it with this. It Also Works With The Vertical Grip.. Very Nice...

Its a great OE handstrap well made out of high quality leather.
Highly Recomend but if you don't want or need the OE version I have seen all leather hand strap from other manufactures for alot less money. I chose this one because I always buy OE if I can, I can alos be assured that Sony will stand by their products.

This strap worked exactly as advertised and was delivered exactly as promised. What more is there to say. If you have a Sony camera, get this extra grip protection.

This made using my alpha so much easier! I can easily point and shoot with one hand now without worrying about losing my grip on the camera body.
