This laptop is amazing. Sony does a great job; the Sony Imagination bundled software is great and Sony keeps it's reputation however there is a fix to the Fan problem (and I'll explain the fix) for all T series.
Pros:
1080P resolution or double the resolution of that of 720P on a 16:9 display.
Touch screen is great on Win 8; firmware has been updated. No I know Win 8 is not so great but it's a start.
Sony Vegas Studio, Imagination Studio Bundled software
Typing is fast. I have never typed so fast on a computer; the keyboard is great.
The viewing angels are average and it's easy to install (a must have) SSD.
It's very light. The battery life lasts about 4.5 hours which is fine for me.
I don't need the optical drive so I replace it with a 9.5mm 2.5" SATA 2nd HDD Hard Driver Caddy in place for the DVD Optical Bay so I have 1 HDD, 1 SSD, and 1 MSSD.
L.F. New 2.5" /9.5mm (SATA) 2ND HDD HARD DRIVE Caddy/Adapter For DELL Latitude E6400 E6500 E6410 E6510 E4300; DELL Precision M2400 M4400 M4500 Series

Cons:
The fan is loud and it really doesn't shoot out any really hot exhaust . The fan comes on max settings too quickly. I've had computers that have had double the heat temperature come from a vent and there seems no way that this computer should get to 70 degrees Centigrade.

There is an easy fix to this though. And that's for all T-series laptops.
It's right here but it's spoken in German:
[...]
Simply you need to download the latest version of fan speed control:
[...]
Right now the latest version is .14.4.6..
Download that and put it on the recommended settings on the manual. This machine has no reason not to have a bios update doing the same process.
Seriously, I've had multiple gaming computers like the Asus G53 series, The Dell XPS 16 series, etc. and they put out much higher temperatures of fan exhaust than this one by far. Maybe it gets hot because of the touchscreen running both the processor and the HD 4000 integrated graphics but don't ruin your cpu/motherboard by putting the max fan speed too low.
Once you downloaded it and put it at the Sony E series default (that's good enough) you need to set it up to automatically start up every time you turn the on button on.
[...]
Read that and you'll be all set.

Update:
The fan really does get loud. I was pulling 80 degrees centigrade while I was just using internet explorer with multiple tabs open. There is no IPS screen like the S series. I rarely use the touch screen and it does not look good in sunlight so I'm switching to an S series with IPS screen. IPS screens you can view from all angels.

I have had the laptop for two weeks, and it works excellent. Powerful, fast and Windows 8 is really not that bad.
The laptop is thin and light. The aluminum body is excellent looking and appears to be durable. The hinge is full length which I prefer for durability. Screen resolution is excellent. Touch screen works well, but you don't need to use it if you don't want. Battery life is about 4 plus hours on standard settings.

The laptop has suitable performance for most CAD systems, the only thing I am not totally happy with is the screen size, the icons look very small and changing it decreases resolution quality but in general I am pretty much satisfied.

I regret that I bought this laptop. I paid $1,200 for it at the Best Buy store. I should have just spent some extra money and bought a MacBook. I'm done with Microsoft products. Here is a list of reasons why I regret buying this laptop.

#1. It came wit Windows 8, which is complete crap. Windows 7 was much better, and don't tell me anything stupid like, "You just don't like change". Use your brain. Everyone hated Windows Vista. When Windows 7 was released, it was completely different from Vista, and everyone loved it. It was a change in the RIGHT direction.

#2. The speakers are WAY too small, and the left speaker shorted itself out withing the first two weeks of me owning this laptop. Since the speakers are so small, they produce absolutely no bass and they sound a little "tinny".

#3. The batter life is horrible. The battery would only last about two hours wile I had it unplugged. After about a year of usage, the battery would not charge to 100%.

#4. The battery design is retarded! Which idiot in Sony decided that it would be a good idea to screw the battery to the bottom of the computer? A batter should be able to be easily removed.

#5. Another problem with the battery is the the screws are connected to the battery with a thin piece of flimsy plastic. After a year, one screw had broken from the battery, which causes the battery to hang and lose its stable terminal connection with the computer. The connection was then intermittent, but not related to the battery not being able to charge to 100% capacity.

#6. Although the touch screen is a nice feature, it is completely useless on a laptop. Also, the material used for this touchscreen collects dust and fingerprints like it's some kind of magnet! I've never seen a laptop screen attract so much dust and so many fingerprints as this one in my entire life.

#7. The touchscreen is way too sensitive! There is no option to turn off the touchscreen function, so there isn't a day that goes by where I don't change or move something on the screen by accidentally touching it.

#8. There is a "lip" at the top of the screen which is made of very cheap plastic. It broke within the first 6 month of me owning the laptop, and that's just because I brushed against it with my right thumb.

#9. The microphone is placed at the base of the keyboard near where your wrist rests while typing. That is a HORRIBLE place to put a microphone because it picks up ALL of the fan noise and it's not in the direction of the camera. A better location for it would have been either above or below the camera which is located about the screen.

#10. The camera is horrible under poor lighting conditions. It's incapable of deciphering colors under poor lighting conditions, therefore no one will be able to see you unless you put some extra light inside of the room. I KNOW Sony could have done a better job. I have a Sony Xperia T smartphone, and its camera is amazing in all lighting conditions, including total darkness!

#11. The SD card slot works intermittently. Sometimes I have to continuously remove and install an SD card in order to get the laptop to communicate with the SD card.

Here are a few good, but not redeeming, things I can say about this laptop.

#1. It's very fast. The processor is nice and it doesn't overheat at all. The laptop runs relatively cool compared to other Microsoft-based laptops.

#2. The picture/video quality is super bright and clear. Unfortunately, it's usually blocked by a multitude of fingerprints and dust.

#3. The amount of hard drive space is lovely. An external hard drive is not really needed unless you want to use one as a backup.

#4. The keyboard backlight is nice. It has three modes to choose from. It can be on 100% of the time, turn off after about 10 seconds of not pushing a button, or it can be off 100% of the time. It's helpful when trying to type in either a dark or poorly-lit room. Unfortunately, it's not the quickest and most comfortable keyboard I've used. Also, the backlight only comes in the color of white. The color cannot be changed.

#5. The touchpad is very easy to use and the cursor has smooth operation.

#6. USB 3.0. Need I say more? I just wish that there would have been more than one USB 3.0 port.

Overall, I give this laptop a 2/5. The system functions well, but the build quality is very flimsy. This is definitely not worth the $1,200 I paid for it. Down through the years, I've been going through Microsoft-based laptops like water. The next laptop I purchase will be from Apple. Those things last for many years.

I have owned this laptop for one year. I haven't had any trouble with it at all. The battery still lasts more than 3 hours of heavy use. The display is very vibrant and the speed is amazing. It wakes up within seconds and connects to local networks so fast! On my other dell computers, I have to wait, and wait and wait and it seems like it takes forever to get connected. It is very durable as well. My son has dropped this thing several times, and once was on the concrete from several feet off the ground. It scratched it, but that's it! I was sure it was ruined, and to my surprise, it was fine. It didn't even have a loose screw. It is definitely worth the extra money.

Purchased my laptop from a different retailer because I wanted to buy it in person. I've had it little over a year and I've already had to have the keyboard replaced and now the battery won't charge. I spent over a grand on this computer and now I feel like it's basically turning into a paper weight.

Before you buy any Sony products you need to go to their "Customer Service" at[...]and spend some time reading what people are saying about their products and lack of customer service. I had a Vaio SVT5115CXS that developed a small crack in the digitizer on the left side that eventually worked its way across the whole screen. The LCD was perfectly fine. I believe it is do to a poor design that lets the screen flex too much when opening and closing. There was NO physical damage to the machine. I sent the laptop in to be repaired under warranty and was told it would cost me $500. Customer service tried to claim there was physical damage. When I asked them to send me pictures of the damage they sent me the poorest quality photo you could imagine of the "supposed" damage. You couldn't even tell what part of the laptop the picture was of. I have seen others claiming that Sony pulled the same trick on them. You can also ask to talk to a supervisor until you are blue in the face and the agent will just repeatedly tell you that they will say the same thing and refuse to pass you to a supervisor. I refused to have them repair it and told them to just send it back to me. Waiting to see how bad they have messed up the laptop now. You think you are getting quality when you spend over $1000 but you are just getting a poorly built piece of junk that will fail soon. AVOID SONY PRODUCTS AT ALL COSTS.

I've been buying computers since the mid-1980s. I bought the Sony VAIO about a year ago to replace a desktop computer. I liked the idea of the touchscreen and I thought I might as well upgrade to Windows 8 while I was at it. I have been sorry ever since. The touchpad/screen is too sensitive and none of the adjustments I've made have had any effect or created an improvement. The DVD device didn't read a CD. The wi-fi, which had been working, suddenly stopped. The list goes on and I'm very dissatisfied. I have an easier time with my old Dell laptop running XP - it's easy to troubleshoot and fix. I just wanted to warn people that this isn't the best choice.

Update: the keyboard keys stick and sometimes it takes several tries to get the letter to display - never had a problem with any other keyboard I've ever used.

I did not buy this computer from Amazon.

I am really not enjoying its use, because the keyboard gets hot upon heating and really not making me enjoy my programming on this device. My fingers really burns!!
