This is a specialist item that excels at doing one thing: portable mono recording to broadcast quality. For a roving reporter, there simply isn't another item of the type to touch it. The only alternative is to go digital, which will give you smaller size and easier editing, but for traditionalists who like the sound of analogue, there really is nothing else.

The Sony recorder is what we wanted, and we just used it to record an oral history. Still trying to get an understanding of exactly how it works, but think we are going to be very pleased with it over the long haul. The Company that sold it to us,seems to have a good system for finding and renovating old high quality electronics, and I will probably buy other things for us.
