How 3D Works

Since our eyes are spaced apart, each eye sees things at slightly different angles. Our brains then combine the two angles, giving us true depth perception. To create that same sense of distance and realism on a TV screen, 3D technology displays high speed synchronized left- and right-eye images to deliver the most immersive 3D experience imaginable. And since each frame you see is shown at Full HD resolution, the 3D action comes alive with razor-sharp detail.

Slide on the 3D Active Glasses and watch as images leap right into your living room. Sporting high-speed synching with 3D images and an ultra-high contrast ratio, these glasses greatly reduce unwanted "ghosting" effects known as crosstalk. Adjustable and comfortable, they are designed with side panels to block out excess light that creates annoying glare on other glasses.

I mean if you have a 2010 model 3D Sony TV you MUST buy a transmitter separately (except for a single XBR model I believe). So with the transmitter and glasses I can now watch 3D TV. Yay I guess.

This isn't a review on the quality of the 3D that Sony TVs provide..though it is pretty good.
I mean the whole purpose for this transmitter to exist (aside from Sony nickel and diming it's customers) is to send a synch signal to the glasses. And it does that very well. And it works with the new 2011 TDG-BR250 glasses, so that's a plus.

Our setup has us sitting about 15 feet from the TV and I was able to get a signal anywhere in the room, so it does it's job well. And it wide transmission angles are well demonstrated as we position the transmitter not in the most ideal location as described below.

My biggest worry before getting the transmitter was if the cord was long enough. We have the 55NX-810, and the transmitter outlet on that model is near the very top of the TV. We want the transmitter sitting on a shelf of the TV stand about 6 inches below the TV. Well that's where the transmitter is now because the cord is indeed long enough. It's a whole 6-Feet long so plenty for anywhere around the TV. It stand well enough on it's own and we don't use the double sided tape. We just place it behind the Wii transmitter and it just tall enough to transmits above the Wii..

So I mean if you own a 2010 Sony 3D TV and you want to make the most of your TV you kind of have no choice but to get this transmitter. Good thing is it does it's job and it's decently priced. If you have a 2011 TV you have no need for this thing.

4 stars because it works......not 5 stars simply because it should have been built in an not a separate purchase in the first place.

It works well. Good 3D quality. What I don't understand is why only SONY TV's you need this transmitter and other brands you do not. why can't it be built in. Its just an added expense and somethhig sticking out in front of the TV instead of being built in.

We decided to take the plunge and get a new Sony 3D TV; the TV does not come with the 3D transmitter so we bought the Sony package deal that includes the glasses, the transmitter, and a 3D movie.

Setting the transmitter up was a simple matter; it plugs into the back of the TV in a special input designed for it alone with a special shape so there can be no confusion with any other input on the back of the TV. It also comes with two double sided adhesive strips which attach the transmitter to any surface; one will do the job so you have a spare.

One important thing is to make sure the transmitting part of the device is facing the viewing area; it can be put in backwards which will seriously compromise the signal transmission to the 3D glasses.

We have used our TV and the 3D feature for over a month now and it has always worked perfectly. We have absolutely no complaints about its performance!

There are really no other options out there for this product, either you need it or you don't. That said I think Sony did a great job with this product, is everything you expected out of their brand. The only thing that bothers me is that this product was not already build into the TV itself, none-the-less there are no complains here. Also buy it here in Amazon you really save a lot of money buying it here.

I recently picked up the TMR-BR100 3D transmitter to go with my new Sony Bravia HX909, and it works like a charm.

Set up is really easy as it uses a proprietary plug that only fits in one direction, meaning you can't plug it in wrong. The transmitter has a dial on the side to allow for an adjustment of +/- 10 degrees to help you aim the 3D signal more directly toward your viewing area, which is helpful.

The only downside for me, and the reason I deducted 1 star, was the way the transmitter sits. Due to the strength of the cord, it constantly wanted to flip over while I was setting it up. It does come with 2 sticky adhesive pads (which are not easy to peel off) to use on the bottom of the transmitter to help keep it upright. Be forewarned however that the bottom of the transmitter has a small indented area that is the EXACT size of the sticky pads, so if you're not careful in placing it down you will find your transmitter sitting crooked, and thus you'll have to peel it back off and try again. I think this is why they give you two sticky pads, because they're pretty certain you're going to mess up the first one. :)

It's still very much a worthwhile product to have, especially for those of us who own a Bravia television without the built-in transmitter.

This little gem will turn any non 3D movie/show into 3D! Obviously the 3d effects are not as good as something filmed in 3D but it looks pretty cool with sporting events!!
I recommend this to anybody with a sony 3d tv! It is cheaply priced and it won't disappoint!!
