4.0 out of 5 stars Not like a dock, but nice little
This little powered speaker is a decent one-room speaker for an MP3 player. It's a bit smaller than I expected.

pros:
-design is clean and well thought out
-auto off mode (turns off after a few minutes) is a nice feature
-dock works for both MP3 players with headphone jack on top and bottom
-AC cord is nice and long and the brick is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, bad sound
I LOVE the fact that this is designed for any MP3 player to sit on, with the cord plugging into the headphone output. I have a Creative Zen and it sits nicely in the stand--kind of like a business card holder--with the cord plugged in to the side. Unfortunately, the sound quality is pretty bad--way too muffled and low. I expected a lot more from a Sony, or any speaker...

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with Sony!, December 3, 2008
This review is from: Sony Tray Style Speaker for iPod and MP3 Players (Electronics)
I purchased my Sony speakers for my 30GB Zune player from Target a year ago because Zune did not have speakers with docking stations out yet. Because it's a Sony, you know it's not going to be a piece of crap. The unit is very light which makes it easy to tote around. The sound quality surprised me for such small speakers. I can turn the volume all the way up on my Zune and also on the Sony speakers and the sound does not distort in any way. It has a sliding (vertical) cradle attached to the back of the speakers. In the bottom of the cradle is a slot so that I can put my charging cord through the bottom and into my Zune. I can lay my Zune sideways on the cradle if I want to watch a movie. My 3 boys all have Zune players so I'm always on the hunt to see which room my Sony is in. I recommend this product for the price (I paid $60! so this is a good deal), quality, and portability. I usually keep my speakers in my bathroom so, after a year, the steam doesn't seem to affect it's performance. For a Sony, this is definitely worth it. I love mine and I'll be getting 3 more for my kids!

Unfortunately, the sound quality is pretty bad--way too muffled and low. I expected a lot more from a Sony, or any speaker this size that plugs into a wall outlet, really. If only it had some form of audio adjustment like bass/treble or a Megabass on/off button. I give Sony high praise for making a nice looking, powered speaker that will accommodate any MP3 player, however, I'm really disappointed in the sound quality so I'm going to have to keep looking for something better. IF the sound was decent it would have been well worth the price. As it is, I think it should have been priced about 50% lower.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this iPod speaker, April 28, 2009

I'm very happy with this Sony speaker. I can (if I wish) max the volume without any distortion or overdriving of the sound. Very clean sound (provided the recording is clean of course). I didn't know what to think of this unit, but bought it because of my previous 'luck' with the Sony brand and comparing to other products online.

I'm glad I bought this, I'd recommend it for those who want to be able to listen to their iPod without having earbuds/headphones on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little speakers, January 15, 2012

I bought a couple of these to boost the sound from my MP3 players. I have also used them to boost the sound from my crappy computer speakers when I want to watch a movie or TV show on my laptop. The sound is loud and clear. I was surprised. The only downside is that they don't charge iPODs. Nevertheless, they're a good speaker for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony Tray Style Speaker, January 23, 2011

I purchased this speaker to for use in my bedroom. I am quite happy with the results, I read other reviews and most people said they felt the volume wasn't loud enough. But, I feel it depends on how you are trying to use this speaker. This is not a speaker with subroofers, adjustable base, etc... It increases the volume loud enough that I can hear it two rooms away so I am pretty happy with that. Also, people may not be turning the volume all the way up on the MP3 player before connecting it to the player. This give extra volume. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very weak sound, November 23, 2010

I bought this as a gift for my wife because I have come to expect decent quality from Sony. I ended up being very disappointed by its performance. The maximum volume on this is weak even by clock radio standards. Don't waste your money on this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect small speaker for a Zune, August 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Tray Style Speaker for iPod and MP3 Players (Electronics)
Bought this for my daughter as a birthday gift to go with her new Zune. There are so many speakers that have docking stations for iPods, but nice looking ones for other mp3 players are hard to find. This one has a little retractable cord that pulls out from the back to plug into the headphone jack. You can lay the Zune on the top tray area, or use the plexi stand that comes with it to raise the Zune up for veiwing. It has an on/auto switch and a volume dial. It is modern looking, easy to use, and small enough that it fits nicely on her desk. I have borrowed it to plug into my laptop for better sound when I am listening to Pandora. The sound quality is decent for the size, this isn't meant to reproduce the quality a stereo system would provide. My husband liked it enough that he asked for one to use at the office, so I've got a second one on the way. The only minus I can think of is that it doesn't charge the mp3 player, and it has to plug into an outlet work (doesn't run on batteries).

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony mp3 dock review, January 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Tray Style Speaker for iPod and MP3 Players (Electronics)
This Mp3 dock works with most sony walkmans. It works for sure with the E - series walkmans. One weakness of this dock is that it doesn't charge you mp3 player. The dock doesn't sap to much power to broadcast your ipods music so that is a plus. This speaker is suited best for a small bedroom.
