5.0 out of 5 stars Great Microphone
Boy I was real surprised how heavy and sturdy this mic was. My kids have been doing karaoke with it all day and the sound is great. No hissing and it actually cut out my dog barking. I'm happy with my purchase!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Mic Terrible Cable
Mic is solid, no complaints about the microphone unit itself.

It has a removable cable, and the one it comes with is the worst soldering job I've ever seen. The poles in the female part (in the mic) push the connections in the male part (the cable/plug) and they slide down into the plug, short, and interrupt recording. It does this constantly. When I tried to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for instrumental recording., December 17, 2006

I play acoustic guitar, djembe, and viola, and this mic works wonderfully for all three. One thing to keep in mind- if using the mini plug to plug directly into a computer, make sure that your soundcard settings are NOT ajusted for an alternate microphone, but be sure to use the mic boost feature (if your soundcard supports it). Also, unless the mic will be less than 5 feet from the instrument, make sure you have a good hiss reduction filter with your recording software (but that's a given). Best results are to plug mic into a mixer, run mixer to a computer.
Overall, still my best mic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, May 12, 2007

This microphone worked great for recording from a piano straight to my pc. It may not be studio quality, but with a little hiss reduction it sounds pretty good. I would recommend it to anyone who doesnt want to go out and spend a couple hundred dollars on a expensive mic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works fine, September 1, 2008
This review is from: Sony Unidirect Mic with Cannon Connect (Electronics)
No complaints. This is my first experience buying recording equipment/microphones. I wanted an inexpensive microphone that works well and that is what I got. I use it mostly with the "Singing Coach" software in order to train my voice. I plan on using it for online karaoke as soon as I'm able to sing well enough to not embarrass myself.

the sounds quality is good. Nothing to complain. and the mini-plug is very useful as microphone for yor PC. However, the line is too short. Not very convenient.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Mic Terrible Cable, February 8, 2011

This review is from: Sony Unidirect Mic with Cannon Connect (Electronics)
Mic is solid, no complaints about the microphone unit itself.

It has a removable cable, and the one it comes with is the worst soldering job I've ever seen. The poles in the female part (in the mic) push the connections in the male part (the cable/plug) and they slide down into the plug, short, and interrupt recording. It does this constantly. When I tried to repair it the parts got hot enough to melt the insulation and make it worse.

This mic was a great buy, I am very satisfied with it's recording abilities (before it stopped working a week after I bought), but they should just sell and advertise it as 'no cable included' cause you're just gonna hang yourself with it.

Factor a new cable into the price before you finish shopping.

I cannot think of anything to complain about.
One thing, I wish it had is a velcro to collect or shorten the long cord when I'm not using it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fragile Construction, November 29, 2008

Arrived on time, and operational. Okay for Karaoke use, though not great.

Used it only for a few hours. Then an inquisitive adult-child decided to unscrew the the portion into which you speak from the handle upon which it was attached, and look inside...

It seems that the two parts easily unscrewed from each other. It is regrettable that there was some kind of a very thin (and sharp) aluminum ring (washer?) between the two parts, near the very thin wires that run from the switch (in the handle) to the microphone piece that was unscrewed from the handle. It is regrettable that the flimsy aluminum ring severed one of the two thin/fragile wires. Now the brand new microphone doesn't work. :(

Of course, it isn't Sony's fault that the adult-child treated the microphone as a science project. However, the world is full of adult-child nitwits; no doubt this has happened before. If Sony didn't intend for those two pieces to be separated from one another, they should have taken steps to idiot-proof the assembly, or at least provide a warning. :|

The only good news is that I don't have to deal with karaoke anymore. :)
