The Exact thing you need for D8 Sony DCR-TRV Models. Really. It works fine. It does fix the camera when you see that prompt that flashes after a few years of use that says "CLEANING CASSETTE" "CLEANING CASSETTE" over and over. You can't get by without this thing. I just wish I would have bought it when it was $9.99 at my local store years ago. The shipping is about the same price of the item, but good luck finding one at your local store. After you open it and stick it in your camera, you will be A-OK again in 10 seconds. This is it folks. Crack open the wallet and whip out the Credit card. Also, I do not work for any Co. affiliated with this company or product. I have no agenda. I mean what I wrote.

By virtue of transferring V8 tape to DV, I became aware of the image quality before and after head cleaning. After cleaning, the video was considerably better, clearer and with better color quality even though the tapes were 15 years old. Cleaning the tape heads was extremely easy and well worth the very reasonable price. Buy one and use it. You'll like the results.

This one little tape saved my bacon from having to buy a replacement camera. It worked great and I am in the process of transferring my old family tapes onto DVD's. I guess sometimes these tapes work and sometimes they don't, but in my case it worked. The tape was delivered as advertised and on time.

It seemed to work fine on cleaning the heads on my camera although I did have to use it several times before the tape would play without any lines going through it. I was able to view my old 8mm video's from 20 some years ago on my video camera that I taped them on. So I was happy with this purchase.

I ordered it from Tapeonline.com in Nashville. It shipped the same day the order was placed and arrived NJ in 3 days, way ahead of expected delivery date. Thanks so much! I was waiting for the 8 mm cleaning tape to save my 22 years old Sony CCD-TR101 camcorder which I almost destroyed by improperly cleaning the recording head with Q-tip/rubbing alcohol. Once received the tape, I put it in immediately and played it for 10 seconds and my beloved camcorder came back alive! The video quality is as good as ever. Now I can continue my 8 mm tapes to .mov digital files conversion project for all the 8/Hi8 tapes we had shot during the more than 15 years it's in service, thanks to the wonderful cleaning tape! No one uses tapes these days any more but most of us probably have a lot of tapes from the old days, full of great memory and it is getting harder to find working 8 mm players/camcorders if your old one doesn't work any more. I almost bought one from ebay after failing to revive my camcorder, but decided to try the cleaning tape first as suggested by experts in a few forums. After all, my TR101 was in great shape and was working fine until I decided to "clean" it. So glad I tried this first. The camcorder is back to functioning perfectly.

Get one if you want to play back the 8 mm tapes on your old machine. You will need it to clean the recording head, and don't try clean it any other way.

I hadn't used my Sony camcorder for over a year and wanted to view some cassettes from a trip. The playbacks of these videos were horrible..broken speech and very unclear images. The camcorder had been kept in a case, so I couldn't figure out how the heads might have gotten dirty, but they had. I ordered this head cleaner, followed the instructions and ran the cleaner for the recommended length of time and voila..camcorder was good as new!

Stupid Spinning Head, Tape Based Video Cameras!
They all rub a little oxide off the tape as they spin. And before you know it, the recording head becomes clogged and no longer writes :-(
.
WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ???
.
I bought 2 of these cleaner cassettes a couple of years ago, and they have kept my Sony TR-120 running LONG past it's expected lifetime.
.
Soon it'll be time for a new Video Camera. I am NOT crazy about the current crop of DVD-R based cameras. Hard-Drive based cameras are the current way to go - - BOTH are power hungry solutions.
.
BUT !!!
.
With the arrival of Solid-State drives (VERY little battery drain, high reliability, currently expensive, but coming down rapidly) it won't be long before it doesn't matter that these cleaning tapes aren't available any more.

If you own an older Sony camcorder (mine is a CCD-TVR68 purchased new in 2000) sooner or later you will get a C-21 code in the viewfinder that requires the use of this cleaning cassette. As far a I know, this is the only way to remove the code and restore the camcorder functions.

This cassette is inexpensive insurance to maintain your camcorder since very few people work on them any longer, and the cost of returning the camcorder to Sony for service is not cost effective.
