Shame on camcorder manufacturers for ever producing cameras without at least a cold shoe for add-on mics, etc. But this item does the trick of fixing this outage. The screw that fits this to the tripod mount on your camera has another tripod mount hole underneath, net, you can add this cold shoe and bracket, and still mount camera plus bracket to to a tripod. Nice that the screw mount slides to adjust location of cold shoe. A bit long for small cameras, but little downside from that. Does the job simply and reliably. Now if I could just find a stick-on cold shoe so I could eliminate the bracket! I know, more camera noise on mics, but also more convenient.

Most consumer camcorders come without an accessory shoe. This is absurd. The Sony shoe is usable on any camcorder since the shoe is standard. Since Sony is known for making their products proprietary, there is some fear that the shoe might not work on non-Sony products. They should say so for this product.

used it to attach the microphone to the camera for recording our church service. Works great.

I don't own one, and I'm not planning to unless somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. I have a Rode VideoMic that fits normal sized cold shoes. I want to use that on my HDR-HC1, but the Active Interface Shoe is too small. This thing screws into the tripod hole. I can't use a tripod anymore. I shouldn't have to sacrifice my tripod useability to fit a 3rd-party accessory on my camera. Why can't somebody make an adapter that fits right into the active interface shoe and has a normal sized cold shoe right on the top. That would be perfect. Especially if it was only half an inch tall. I would so buy that.
