4.0 out of 5 stars works as advertised
I purchased this polarizing filter for my Sony HC96. The Sony store at the mall did not have it in stock and the Sony website was also out of stock. Either it's a popular item or Sony didn't produce a large volume of it. Anyway, it took Amazon at least a couple of weeks to ship it. I took the filter on my trip to Yosemite. The polarizer works well, but my first one did not thread on all the way so it fell off and was lost. The second one I bought threads completely on/in. Such small filters ought to be cheaper. It should have threads on the front of the polarizer so you could screw the UV on it, and there is no cap. You have to remove them and replace them each time and you can't use them...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony VF-30CPKXS 30mm Polarizing Filter Kit for DCR-DVD92, 203, 403, 405, 505, HC90, 96 & HDR-HC3, SR1 Camcorders (Electronics)
It did just as advertised --- made the sky more blue and removed light reflections from glass windows and water surfaces. If you want to keep the reflections for visual effect, you just have to rotate the lens out of the effective meridian. The protective lens that came with the filter was handy, too. At first, I didn't know why I would need it because I justed wanted a polarizing filter. It turns out that it's good for protecting the camera lens from wind/dust and water spray from the waterfalls when the polarizing filter is off the camera. It seems pricy ($75), maybe because it's a Sony or because it's not a popular item. I'd say it's not useful for most occasions, esp. indoors. It's a luxury item for outdoor shots as a hobby.

The polarizer works well, but my first one did not thread on all the way so it fell off and was lost. The second one I bought threads completely on/in. Such small filters ought to be cheaper. It should have threads on the front of the polarizer so you could screw the UV on it, and there is no cap. You have to remove them and replace them each time and you can't use them together. I put the cheaper UV filters on the polarizers on my still cameras (it's cheap protection). Without a cap you will probably scratch them up pretty soon when shoving it in or pulling it out of a bag. It is still a must have for me, but with significant drawbacks.
Same thing for the wide angle lens, no threads and no polarizer available to go on that. Generally good quality stuff from Sony but not particularly impressed with these.
