It's what you need, but not at this price,

This review is from: Sony VF37CPKS Filter Kit for HD1000U, HDR-HC1, HC5, HC7, UX1, UX5 & UX7 Camcorders (Electronics)
While I bought sony's wide angle and telephoto lens for their camcorder, there's no reason to pay (IMO) $20-30 more for these filters.
You can get a CIRCULAR polarizer as cheap as $10-15 if you shop around. You DO need a CP, but not at this price.

Polarizing filter,
This review is from: Sony VF37CPKS Filter Kit for HD1000U, HDR-HC1, HC5, HC7, UX1, UX5 & UX7 Camcorders (Electronics)
Would like the product better if it had 'stops' to prevent the filter from rotating due to vibration from motor vehicles. Otherwise it worked well.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony VF37CPKS Filter Kit for HD1000U, HDR-HC1, HC5, HC7, UX1, UX5 & UX7 Camcorders (Electronics)
These are both simple filters that should both work and do but I bought a cheaper non Sony polarizer from Amazon and it didn't. The cheap one had a film of polarized material on glass which distorted in telephoto and the Sony uses polarized glass. Buy cheap, get crap so go with the Sony.
