It's what you need, but not at this price,

While I bought sony's wide angle and telephoto lens for their camcorder, there's no reason to pay (IMO) $20-30 more for these filters.
You can get a CIRCULAR polarizer as cheap as $10-15 if you shop around. You DO need a CP, but not at this price.

Polarizing filter,

Would like the product better if it had 'stops' to prevent the filter from rotating due to vibration from motor vehicles. Otherwise it worked well.

These are both simple filters that should both work and do but I bought a cheaper non Sony polarizer from Amazon and it didn't. The cheap one had a film of polarized material on glass which distorted in telephoto and the Sony uses polarized glass. Buy cheap, get crap so go with the Sony.

In retrospect, buying the filter set was a great investment. Have a brand new CX520V, got a NPFH100 extended battery and didn't realize the battery made the camcorder terribly top heavy in the A02211630 holster case with swivel neck strap. As long as case hangs at side, resistance prevents rotation. Camera swung free of body, case rotated, camera fell into water. Fished out in a flash. MC filter kept lens dry. Slight amount of water leaked into LCD screen but is drying out and camera appears to have survived. Highly recommend filter set for above reasons. Haven't detected any effect on video quality due to filter use.

My husband bought a new camcorder from Sony a couple months back. He looked up the filters and extra batteries in Sony. They were much more expensive than on Amazon. I looked them up on Amazon and told him the price difference and we decided to order from Amazon. It was an excellent decision as they fit the camera perfectly and work very well. I am sure he will want other supplies and I will gladly check Amazon before he buys elsewhere. Besides, Shipping is also faster than Sony!

Suppresses unwanted reflections off glass and water, protects lens from dust and streaks, and fits 37mm diameter....great buy for your digital camera/camcorder
