5.0 out of 5 stars Sony VAIO VGC-LV140J, March 21, 2009

This review is from: Sony VAIO VGC-LV140J 24-Inch All-in-One PC (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Silver (Personal Computers)
Received as advertised. Set-up was quite easy. The screen and display is very, very good. Although the system works well as purchased I would consider more system memory (an upgrade that I'll have to buy and install on my own). Had a problem in the second week where the system could not access the DVD drive. Was pleasantly surprised by the support provided. A few minutes with the Sony help desk and the problem was quickly resolved. A follow up message was received from them explaining the cause and instructions on correcting the problem should it occur in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, Unreliable Performance, October 8, 2009

It's much slower that I would like. I build computers for a living, servers more specifically... so I know a little but about hardware and performance. I wanted a beautiful display, and flat wall-mountable computer. That is what I got. However, Vista 64bit is very unreliable and even less compatible with software and drivers than the 32bit version, so be warned. The issues I have had so far:

* The system is unresponsive from time to time. Black screen, no response - not sleeping ( I know it's not sleeping because I can head sounds from the PC when I change the volume level). I have to reboot it COLD to get the display to come back. That is dangerous and bad for the system.

* The remote control would take one tap of a command - and enter it over and over until you tapped another command. So if you tried to turn the volume up a little... it would go ALL the way. If you tried to turn it back down a little... it would go ALL the way down. This did the same for menu navigations. The remote was useless in this manner - the only way to make the excessive command inputs stop was to close your application.

* Several applications are not compatible with Windows Vista 64bit. Requires signed certificates.

* The HDMI cable imput is for the external television only. The external television does not allow for use of Windows Media Center, or Recording etc. It also doesn't allow for remote control. So you can techincally watch HD television on this computer, but only by activating it on the side panel - and controlling the volume by hand. My set top box remote works still - but no volume or power etc. I was dissappointed - because I was led to believe that it would filter through into Media Center.

All in all... it's an OK PC for saving space - and being flashy. But for performance, I've seen much better.
