this model has a faulty cooler.
this is what causes the power up problem. (its a built in protection from overheating) I had to pay to have mine fixed in the sony centre in rio de janeiro. No international warranty. It was good for a year before the cooler started to rattle again. Now sony is offering to replace the coolers in this model for free. I just took it in to have the cooler replaced in Perth western australia is was fixed in 2 days & works like a charm now... Only thing is i would like to upgrade to windows 7 from vista. & sony has not made the drivers available for download on the support page.

I have the Alienware area 51 desktop puter and believe me when you own an alienware you own the greatest puter built. I needed a laptop and was told the alien laptop was no where as good as the desktop in comparison. I tried a lot of laptops out, did a lot of research and got in a lot of forums for reviews and discussions. 2 years ago the Vaio was one of the top laptops out. When I got mine I was happy with it. A year later I was really happy with it. This laptop's a nice machine I think the bad reviews I have read have something to do with how you use your puter, what you put on it, how you keep it cleaned out, and who you let use it etc. I have had one problem in 2 years...the fan went out and I called sony and they had a repair man at my door in a two days and he put the new one in at no charge and was so fast I was super pleased with the service. All fans will go out IF you don't get some ventilation under them when its on your lap etc. I have since bought a tray for ventilation and it works great. I am really happy with my vaio and its still like brand new. I take care of my puters cuz their both great machines and worth it! I would highly recommend the sony vaio! Stop and think before you listen to negative reviews who's making them. You take care of a machine like this one and it will last forever. I have taken vista off and put win 7 on twice and it screams still, I like variety, I love it! Damn good puter!

Defective Fan,

I bought this model last October 2008. No complaints until now. After turning it on, it turns off after about 5 minutes. Was told it was overheating. I don't know why Sony has not recalled this model. I know of at least 4 other people who encountered the same problem. All of us bought our laptop in the US and all of us live outside the US and are now having trouble having our laptops fixed. Sony has no international warranty. Will have to go through the trouble of sending the unit to the US etc etc. This is so much trouble.

Computer Dead after only 1 month,
This review is from: Sony VAIO VGN-CS110E/Q 14.1-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
Purchased this computer and it began having power up issues within one month of purchase. It is now DOA in less than 6 weeks of purchase. Sony website indicates that this power up issue is a "hot topic" for this model. One wonders if this is a design issue. Called Sony repair. It will take a month to get my computer repaired. With 12 mont warranty, a month off is 10% loss in cost of computer. I need the computer for work and for taxes, but am out of luck for a MONTH. Likely will be LAST Sony Computer I purchase...perhaps any Sony consumer electronics!

Not what I Expected from a SONY VAIO,

I have always used Toshiba Brand, the last one I owned ( which was stolen ) was incredible with 2 GB RAM a COre 2 Duo processor 1.86 speed, this Vaio is 3GB in RAM 2.0GHZ Core 2 Duo Processor and the performance is about half of the Toshiba. I expected a lot more power in everyway but I am a little disappointed to check at a poor performance. My wife owns a Toshiba with a 1.5GHZ AMD Turion processor and 3GB RAm is about 3 years old and works almost the same as this one.... Sony is an expensive brand, but that does not mean you will receive what you expected for the price....

This computer seems flimsily constructed. My problem is that, only two weeks after purchase, the power connection started to lose contact, i.e., I couldn't get the AC cable to connect cleanly to the computer so that the battery would charge. The battery itself sits somewhat loosely in position, and the computer as a whole feels cheap and and fragile.
I've had the problem before of not being able to use a laptop because the power cable stopped connecting--but that was only after three years of heavy use. The only way to remedy the problem, I've heard, is to replace the whole board, which means (if the computer isn't really new) that you might as well throw it in the wastebasket. I got the computer from NewEgg, which doesn't give refunds on laptops, only exchanges, and I don't want to exchange this computer for another just like it--with the same design flaws. Newegg, by the way, has discontinued the computer (because of customer complaints, perhaps?), but they refuse to refund my money, and they're not even able to affect an exchange since they stopped selling the computer--evidently two minutes after mine arrived. I still haven't had it for 30 days. I've been a strong NewEgg fan for many years--but this experience has left me feeling less kindly to that company.

X-mas gift for my daughter. 2 weeks later the hard drive died. BestBuy fixed hard drive, but no OS disks were included; had to ship back to Sony to reimage. 2 more weeks and the VAIO is back w/o the power cord. 1 more week we get the cord and the laptop won't power up. Hmmm...Have to send it back AGAIN. Great. I am not happy - especially with the amount of cash layout for the product. My other daughter picked out a Toshiba. Bigger screen and trouble free. Hmmmm....and $400 cheaper. If only I could do it over again....

The Sony Vaio VGN-CS110E/Q 14.1-Inch Laptop computer I bought had a good discount price, the product came as advertised, a good computer, and delivery was timely. I'm satisfied with Sony and with Amazon.com. I recommend it to anyone interested in buying a new, unexpensive laptop.

This review is from: Sony VAIO VGN-CS110E/P 14.1-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Pink (Personal Computers)
This laptop works really well and the colour is slick and stylish. It is the perfect kind of pink. The laptop even comes with free trials of Microsoft Office and many programs and games that are easy and fun to use. You can pretty much get started using it right away as set up is extrememly straight forward. A lot of people prefer to use MacBooks to PCs but of all the PCs in the world, the Sony Vaio is the only PC Laptop that can squash a MacBook in terms of appearance and performance.
Buy it and enjoy it... |
