Great specs for a laptop, and it works great so far.

What I don't like:
-Vista (just not very backward compatable), but not the computer's fault.
-Only 3 USB ports in a bad spot. They are all on the right hand side in front of the DVD player, not so great if you use a mouse, are right handed and in a tight space.

What I do like:
-Great screen. Full 1080p. Unless you need a blueray player for your TV, I see no reason for a screen this size to need it (unless you only have blu-ray movies, of course)
-Light for it's size
-firewire (4 pin) input

Consumer alert .... I purchased my Sony Vaio VGN-FW245J/HC through Best Buy. I even purchased the extended Geek Squad warranty. I had this laptop 60 days and the hard drive crashed/failed to recover. Dealing with Sony's tech support/customer service is beyond HORRIBLE. Half of the techs do not speak or understand English and are rude due to their lack of English skills (they sound like a robot repeating the same sentence). Sony will transfer you to an English speaking agent if you start using the universal language in frustration (they understand those words). Each time you are transferred to a different person, they tell you a different story of what needs to be done, etc. Under Sony's warranty, they sent out a 3rd party vendor to replace the hard drive (unformatted) and require that you purchase the recover CD's for $50 (plus tax and shipping). The 2nd hard drive failed. I took laptop back to Best Buy frustrated (and not wanting to deal with Sony again). Best Buy tried to recover hard drive/load OS and new hard drive failed (would not allow anything to be loaded). Best Buy is shipping back to Sony. Per Best Buy's extended warranty, after three attempts to fix, they will either replace laptop or allow me to purchase a like model. I hope this happens so I can get another laptop from another manufacturer. I have been inconvenienced for three weeks and I am told it may be another 3 weeks. I am using my old 10 year old Compaq (which is the reason why I purchased the Sony to upgrade my technology). I asked the 3rd party vendor that Sony sent out to fix if they are having problems with these models and the vendor informed me that the newer Vaios have been experiencing hard drive failures. I also asked the manager of Best Buy Geek Squad what laptop manufacturers are the ones that they see the least and he informed me for the newer laptop models, Compaq/HP, Toshiba and Dell seem to be the most reliable. Hope this information helps you. When I was researching the Sony Vaio (this particular model), the ratings were 4.9 out of 5. Maybe I just have a lemon, but the customer service and warranty from Sony is still poor.
