5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal, Great Buy, Excellent Laptop
From the moment I opened up the box and pulled out this laptop I was amazed. Aesthetically the laptop is very beautiful, has a sleek and streamlined feel to it, yet it does not give off the feeling that anything has been compromised or removed in order to give it that "streamlined" look.

The screen is the perfect size, not too big or not too small, however...

1.0 out of 5 stars Please, don't buy!
The price used to be $1, 099 just 2 weeks ago! I want to know the reason that made the price jump with over $400 for such a short time! I was planning to buy this laptop but I changed my mind. I don't want to have any business with someone who tries to cheat! Please, don't buy it for more than $1, 099!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal, Great Buy, Excellent Laptop, April 19, 2009
This review is from: Sony VAIO VGN-FW370J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Blu-ray Drive, Vista Premium) Gray (Personal Computers)
From the moment I opened up the box and pulled out this laptop I was amazed. Aesthetically the laptop is very beautiful, has a sleek and streamlined feel to it, yet it does not give off the feeling that anything has been compromised or removed in order to give it that "streamlined" look.

The screen is the perfect size, not too big or not too small, however if you are used to smaller laptops this thing is a behemoth - of course in a good way. The picture is crystal clear, has stunning visuals, a diverse assortment of extremely vivid and vibrant colors, and the widescreen complements the perfect visuals of the laptop and is particularly beneficial when watching movies or doing just about anything. The Blu-ray Disc is also a HUGE plus. Instead of having to go out and spend hundreds on a Blu-Ray Disc player, this laptop provides you with one and ports to connect to your television if you want.

Concerning the sound and audio, it is very clear, pristine, and makes you feel like you are in a theatre. Nevertheless, I do agree with the first reviewer it is relatively quiet at full settings - however it never compromises the quality of the sound no matter how loud or quiet it gets.

Among other things, one of my absolute favorite features about this laptop is the keyboard. All the keys are widely spaced, and as someone who spends countless numbers of hours typing, this thing is a dream. With other laptops I always have to look at the keyboard while typing to make sure I do not accidentally type the wrong letter. However, with this laptop, I never have to look at the keyboard and be concerned with typing in the wrong letter. Not once have I made a typo on this review or any other document I have written so far.

Individually analyzing all the aspects of this laptop will take too long and will be a hard read. For that you can just read the overview of this product on its homepage. I am reviewing this product as someone who has the laptop, knows the "inside information," and all of its familiarities.

Again, I am no expert on laptops, their technical capabilities, etc.; however I can say with supreme confidence that every aspect and every dimension of this laptop is probably the best out there and has exceeded all my expectations.

Great Deal, Great Buy, Excellent Laptop.

Ok, I just got this laptop from amazon two days ago and so far i really like it.
It has a nice size and the screen looks neat but its not heavy like other computers the same size.
The only cons I can say so far are that the area next to the mousepad kinda heats a little too much so its a little unconfortable to use for long periods, but its not like burning hot. The batery life isnt THAT long either, it said 2 to 5 hours but mine works for almost 3 hours, which aint horrible, but it also aint 4 hours.
The sound is pretty neat, but not loud.
mmmm, overall im pretty happy witht he laptop and I think it's a pretty good deal for the money I payed for it.

I have this laptop for about five months and I am really in love with it. I do a lot of work on a computer and this laptop is more like a desktop. The quality of this laptop is very high - it's fast and battery life is long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Design, technical specs, and medium cost!, August 28, 2009
"Beautiful! Great performance and Blue-Ray w/HD display!"

Pros: Fast and beautiful design. My first Chiclet keyboard and I love it! the screen is WOW! and the design is awesome

Cons: SLOW Hard drive. I'll soon be replacing with a 250GB SSD and that should make this machine scream! Battery life a bit short...I'll be buying the larger battery cause at times I want more and having a second would be even better!

Summary: Great laptop for the price. Best purchase of a computer in a long time and I have 6 laptops in the family! This one is mine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Pricy Choice, July 7, 2009

This review is from: Sony VAIO VGN-FW370J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Blu-ray Drive, Vista Premium) Gray (Personal Computers)
I almost bought Dell studio 17", but a lot of reviews said troubles with disk drive and one other thing (I don't remember). Some said they can be fixed. I don't want to fix anything after I paid for a brand new machine. Manufacturer needs to see that fixing is not required by the user; it is his responsibility. So I went for Sony VGN-FW370J which is 0.6 short of 17". A bit pricy like a salesman from Best Buy said "You are paying for the name". I could have got a laptop with similiar capability for some $300 less. I like the stylish design and color and the specifications. I bought this one to supplement my existing 3 years old HP dv6000 15.4" which is giving some trouble with wireless reception. Works OK with ethernet connected. Sony laptop is great and I don't regret that I bought it. Wireless picked up real fast and I like it. A couple of cons I came through in one month. One time screen went all black in the middle of work and I had to restart. On another occassion, screen changed to black and white stripes also in the middle of work but went away after restart. So I must be careful to save my work. I don't know if it can be fixed and I have not contacted Sony. I am a right hander and use wireless mouse. This machine has all USB ports near the front right side which kind of hinders my mouse hand movements. Well, I have learned to live with one or the other shortcomings of all electronic consumer products. Other than those, this is a great machine worth investing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vaio thoughts, May 24, 2009
Things to like:
- The keyboard
- The size and weight
- The blueray
- The speed of start up and in running complex programs
- The size and shape of the screen
Thing not to like
- The battery runs about 3 hours or less
- Although the picture quality is good, it is not excellent. I would have now opted for the full HD screen. I miss the clarity of my Dell full HD.My bad.
- Heat in the under hand area is a nuisance.
- No lock down when closed
