I bought this laptop for my mom as a present after purchasing a NS290J. The free shipping from Amazon was quick. The laptop works great and was simple enough to set up that my mom was able to do it. She loves it and hasn't had any complaints.

I just received my Sony VAIO. Be forewarned this computer comes with NO disks and NO manuals. The manuals have to be down loaded from the Internet so if you don't have Internet access there are no instructions for connecting to the Internet. You have to create your own recovery disks. After 5 tries and 5 ruined disks I still don't have any recovery disks. Sony said I could purchase some recovery disks from their Parts Center. I've never bought a computer that didn't come with a copy of the operating system. I've also never had a computer I didn't have to reinstall the operating system at some point. Also it recognized my network and my Lacie hard drive connected to my router but it wouldn't recognize my Epson C88. Even plugged directly into the computer it would not connect. It said error-installing Driver. I contacted Epson they said uninstall the Driver and install it again. It still didn't work on the network or USB. It works fine on my other computers (not Vista) but not this one. If you're looking for a first computer this is not it. If you don't already have email and Internet prepare to spend a long time on the phone getting help to just get started. I have several Sony products I've been very happy with but this is not one of them.
