2.0 out of 5 stars Great features, price, looks, one FATAL flaw
I purchased the sony vaio VGN-NW270F. Initially I was happy with it and the blue-ray. Shortly however I noticed when I charged the laptop to 100% and turned the laptop off,24 hours later the battery would be at 90% or less. This issue is common on ALL newer vaios, google it if you do not believe me. Search "Sony Vaio battery drain". Sony will not release a "fix" for it,in...

Sony will not release a "fix" for it,in fact in one customer service report they describe this as a feature. The battery life never exceeds 2.5 hours either (4 hours listed). I jumped the gun big time buying this laptop. Do your research, now I will take a 85% hit in return price and need a new laptop for school starting January.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bang for Your Buck, October 25, 2009
After comparing all the laptops in the BestBuy store, We pick this laptop for the BEST.

Not only elegant design, beautiful body, but it also has a very sharp and bright lcd screen for the built-in Blu-ray Drive!

In short, You can't go wrong for the price of this laptop!
Sony will become a big guy in the computer market!

5.0 out of 5 stars Design Worth The Money, December 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After playing around with every brand of laptop at various stores it was clear to me that Sony does design better than anyone but mac. The overall feel is better than the competition. The track pad has a unique texture of raised dots that keeps fingers from sticking, and is very precise. The key board is well proportioned, the space between keys allows for more accurate typing than many of the newer keyboards that feel like one giant flat key.

The screen is beautiful, it is glossy so it looks mirror like, but suffers from minimal reflection. It is 780P which is fine when you are looking at a 15.5in screen. Bright, rich colors are refreshed quickly in fine detail. Bluerays played on a 1080p TV looked perfect via the hdmi output, zero hesitation.

The speakers are good. Average volume, but sound great.

The box is slightly lighter than similarly priced laptops, the textured waves look nice and do not collect finger prints. The folding action is smooth and firm.

Microsoft word opens in about 2.5sec.

The battery life seems less than advertised, 2.5hrs is about all I get. It could use better controls for volume, one must use FN>Fx keys to adjust volume/brightness.

I'm happy, at $715 it was worth the extra $50-75 over similarly configured laptops, (none of which had a blueray payer). I'd rather have the Sony design than $75 worth of extra gigawatts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray, HDMI, HD, core 2 dou -- WOW ---, November 23, 2009
I am a self proclaimed apple fan (not a fanboy) -- as I a have an imac, macbook air, 2 iphones, and too many ipods to mention - and all I can say is that this is a sweet computer - I always keep a pc around b/c I dont like to run parallels or other programs to run on my mac --- and I usually use a netbook just for size. I saw this at bestbuy (699) and was intrigued. The specs are awesome and the fact that it has a bluray drive with HDMI out sealed the deal. So far so good -- it's really fast -- at least compaired to my old sony viao w netbook (I tried the new viao x but that was slow as molasis too - actually took a 15% hit -- 200 bucks - to return it). It is pretty nice looking -- I kinda dig the texture. It is really heavy -- I would not use this to carry around all the time (macbook air is much better for that) -- but overall this is a great computer at a great price (sorry amazon - it is cheaper at best buy and not even on sale there)

3.0 out of 5 stars great PC on AC but very poor battery power, December 3, 2009
Loved this laptop on AC power. I never got anywhere near 4 hours of operation on battery power - - more like 2 hours. Fortunately, I was able to return to BestBuy for full refund.

I have no use at all for a portable computer that must stay close to an AC receptacle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy for the price, December 20, 2009
I purchased this laptop a month ago and i can tell you that it excellent buy for the price. Windows 7 IS GREAT. Direct Web option by SONY is such a great bonus. no worries of switching the laptop on/off. Within 10 secs you are connected to web and switch off at the same fast pace. The LCD clarity is stunning. Not to forget , BLU-RAY Player in-built plays movies awesomely. Yeah the only downside is Direct WEB option does not provide brightness adjustment and Battery life is 2.5 hrs only. But overall, i am happy with power-packed features compared to the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why I bought this from Amazon..., December 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I haven't had time to play around enough with this comp to review it, but I will at a later date.

Like some have mentioned, this product is available at some other retailers for a lower price. However, if you use the Payphrase promo going on right now, you receive 5% cashback within the month to use towards future Amazon purchases. Then, I just got an unexpected email giving me a $20 credit for Amazon Videos on Demand. And, you can get a free year subscription to Wired, if you so desire. So, with just the 5% cashback alone, I'm looking at pretty much the same amount I'd pay at the big blue store with their 7.5% local tax added. As an added bonus, I don't have to deal with them trying to peddle all their additional geek squad services and extended warranties, and Amazon brings it straight to my door. Easy decision. I heart Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very annoying laptop, May 7, 2010
My husband purchased this laptop about 6 months ago. Approx 1 month after purchasing it, the computer started to freeze up on us for no reason. We only use the laptop to check emails and surf the web for normal activity so we don't have a lot of data stored or any type of virus. Not only does the computer freeze on us, but the battery life is awful. We're constantly having to use the charger in order to use the laptop - it's ridiculous. Also, the picture quality is bad. I think I would have better luck viewing photos in the dark.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fragile LCD, February 12, 2010
This review is from: Sony VAIO VGN-NW270F/P 15.5-Inch Pink Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
Vaio Laptop VGNNW270F

Six weeks ago I purchased a new Sony VGNNW270F laptop. One week ago, the laptop was sitting on the table and my husband moved it 6 inches. He admits to having had his thumb on the screen. Within an hour the screen went "Mondrian-like". We scoured the computer to find out what was wrong but could find no visible problem. We called Sony and sent it back, confident that they would stand behind their product. Unfortunately, that was not the case. According to Sony the screen was cracked internally and was not covered under warranty and would cost $500 to fix.

My husband is an IT professional and has handled hundreds if not thousands of laptops, he has never seen an LCD break this easily. He spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Sony explaining that it had to be defective or clearly too fragile for a laptop. They would not budge. That is their prerogative. I have since experimented with other laptops and have carried them around the house by the lid with my thumb on the screen, never mind just moving it 6 inches on a stable surface. I am finding it impossible to break them in that fashion and would likely have to drop it or bang it against a wall to break it. Clearly the Sony LCD is much too fragile for laptop use. One buys a laptop because it is portable and to be portable requires a certain level of durability - the Sony Vaio does not pass muster.

I'm not sure if a $1000 piece of equipment lasting 5 weeks is a record, but it certainly is for my bank account. I will never buy another piece of Sony equipment of any kind after this experience.

Their advertising tag line is make. believe - I now understand it because I now have to "make believe" I have a computer or "make believe" I can afford to shell out another $1000 for a laptop - albeit NOT a Sony.
