5.0 out of 5 stars One large step for technology
I bought this for my family for Christmas and they LOVED it! Everyone that came to the house over the holidays could not get over the touch screen capability. After I explained that it had a Blu-ray player and all the other features, they were sold. 2.0 out of 5 stars Caution: VERY loud fan
Great PC in many ways (all-in-one, large screen, touch, blue ray), but I've never used a computer with such a loud fan, so I'm returning it. It would probably work best in a noisy environment, where the fan noise was drowned out by other noises, but doesn't work well in a home, in my opinion.

I bought this for my family for Christmas and they LOVED it! Everyone that came to the house over the holidays could not get over the touch screen capability. After I explained that it had a Blu-ray player and all the other features, they were sold. I had the computer sent to work before Christmas so I would have it ready when my family opened it on Christmas. Three guys in my office bought one for their families after they experienced the computing speed, the clarity of the picture and the touch screen capabilities. We have only had ours for a month but I do not have a single complaint.
This is perfect of a student in a dorm with limited space. It would work great as a television and a computer. I have always been impressed with Sony and Microsoft, but the marriage of their latest products has proved to be a giant leap forward for consumers.

My wife had a 4-year-old laptop she always used in the kitchen (while cooking...in-between activities) that we donated to her mother. I was always worried that something was going to fall out of one of the overhead cabinets and do some damage to it. When I was checking around for its replacement, I stumbled across this all-in-one computer. One thing I like about it (for us, anyway) is that it can sit up under the cabinet...anything falling out will only hit the wireless keyboard, which I can easily replace if need be. Maybe a minor feature, but a nice one.

Here is what I like about the product:

Beautiful, LARGE screen (best feature).
Fast processor.
Blue-ray!
Four GB of RAM (all I need).
Very quiet...we cannot hear it at all when it is on.
Built-in webcam and microphone.
Built-in wifi.
Touch screen...a neat feature to have, but I rather doubt we will use it very often.
Windows 7 64-bit, which I now have on all my PCs (four counting this one) and highly recommend.

Things to note:
It is heavy, so if you want portability, go with a laptop.
It cannot get television reception...some others models do, but I didn't want/need that feature, so I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it.
The first thing I did was remove all the trial software...Norton, MS Office 2007, etc.
You cannot upgrade later (add RAM, another video card, etc). The casing is sealed, so what you buy is what you'll have.
The hard drive is a bit on the small side, but I don't mind that...I CAN add an external hard drive later if I need to. Since this is for my wife, who mainly only uses it for email and web browsing, 320GB is more than enough.

You can get a laptop with the same features that this PC has for about the same price (as of this writing), but without the 24-inch screen. We are very happy with the purchase and highly recommend it. Although it's big, it looks great sitting out on our kitchen counter. It is a lot of money, but we have NO regrets in our purchse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall great all in one, February 5, 2010
This review is from: Sony VAIO VPC-L111FX/B 24-Inch Black All-in-One Desktop PC (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
We bought this all-in-one from Costco and were very thrilled using it until we went on vacation and forgot the windows password. Sony recommended we restore the PC to factory settings. After that it was all downhill, first the BD-ROM stopped working, spent 6 hrs with Sony tech support. Applied all Vaio/Windows updates but it still did not work. Sony had someone come to our place with a new BD-ROM, the tech did not know how to remove the BD-ROM and spent several hours trying to pry the back. Anyway he finally figured out that the drive was attached with screws from the side and he replaced it. That seems to have resolved the Blue-ray playback issue. Later found out that Norton family security software was causing freezing of pc, uninstalled that and installed Microsoft essentials and it works great. I would still avoid applying the updates recommended by VAIO CARE software. Touch screen, wireless keyboard, mouse are great. If you buy this all in one - get insurance, I have a feeling it will be needed as this has some great new untested technologies. Overall we are impressed and keeping it for the remaining 30 days of our Costco 90 day return policy. If it keeps running without any issue, it will become permanent fixture of our kitchen. It might be better to go with the $2K model, it comes with more processors, larger drive, remote and HDTV. If Sony improves tech support - this is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Giant Ipad, July 28, 2010

Giant Ipad = happy wife

Pros: ease of use for the visually handicapped, quick setup small space needed, fast

Cons: some sony software confusing

Vaio software about content monitoring is confusing. I took the Norton Demo off and downloaded the free MS Security Essentials.
The user (wife) is a sight-impaired senior that doesn't drive a car anymore.
We adjusted the font size to 175 percent and now she is able to do email, shop, watch Hulu etc. with minimal use of keyboard. Icons are adjusted to very large size, and oversize black mouse pointer with trails was also selected
Chrome browser is FAST.
Sony has a real winner in the touch screen that works great.
Consider this a 2-foot diagonal IPAD with some real performance.
Tip to Sony & Amazon: run an ad in AARP magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It!!, March 22, 2010

If I had to sum this purchase up in one sentence that would be: Quality machine at a great price! I really love the functionality of this machine! You get the feeling that you're interacting directly w/ a mid-sized HDTV--one that plays Blu Ray discs, has a competitively sized hard drive and makes interactions with global maps more fun than ever.

I needed a system that could fit on a desktop, perform all the standard business computing functions, utilized a powerful processor for video/ image editing plus would add instant value to the room as a conversation piece. Lemme say--I am extremely content with this purchase! Watching movies on it feels like a very personal experience and the integrated speakers kick out some pretty quality sound.

The problem w/ all-in-one PC's has and remains to be the lack of upgrade options. What you get is...well...what you get. That's why if you go the all-in-one option, buy a device that has all you need and then some.

Other reviewers have noted this but the machine can be kinda noisy--not unbearably so, but definitely noticeable. The touch screen aspect is pretty responsive but that also means quite a few smears if you're not careful. I am honestly looking into obtaining more touch-screen intensive programs just to enjoy the functionality. This VAIO also has a good number of USB ports which is extremely helpful and appreciated for those w/ several thumb drives on hand. Gaming enthusiasts won't be disappointed either as the processor and graphics card are able to play most of today's games w/ relative ease.

My nephews & niece love interacting with this machine--though I didn't buy it for them!! It's mine--but I'm a good uncle and know how to share ;-)

This Computer is amazing from the build quality to the stunning Blueray quality of the disc although I don't watch movies on the computer I like most new owners try all of the features. The touch screen I don't use did try it but who wants fingerprints all over the screen. The most endearing aspect is the" all in one" no Tower etc etc I already own the previous version of this with a 21ins screen Vista is the o/s system but Windows 7 is the way forward, have had this computer 2 months no problems and in daily use.Bought through through Amazon as they are trusted supplier with 5* customer service.

I bought this great computer which was advertised as having a 320 Gig Hard Drive. After setting it up,I saw available space as 287 Gig. However the computer is excellent for speed and versatility
I recommend it.
