5.0 out of 5 stars Good software if you're willing to invest the time
Vegas 4.0 is not for the faint of heart or for those who are not willing or able to take the time to learn a software package that is capable of producing professional video productions suitable for broadcast or film.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best...
For PC editing, this is a fairly good program. However, I prefer Final Cut Pro a million times over Sony Vegas. The interface is much friendlier and the program has much much more capability that Vegas does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good software if you're willing to invest the time, September 5, 2003
This review is from: Vegas 4.0 (CD-ROM)
Vegas 4.0 is not for the faint of heart or for those who are not willing or able to take the time to learn a software package that is capable of producing professional video productions suitable for broadcast or film.

That being said, if you are willing to put some effort and time into learning it, Vegas will reward you richly. Having moved from Ulead Videostudio, I found that I immediately had much greater control over every part of my video. Color correction, transitions, unlimited number of audio tracks, over 30 DX effects for sounds, and the list goes on and on. The key here is that when you create a quality product, it's because of your own creative vision, not one imposed by the software.

If you've outgrown lesser packages or need the power straight off, I highly recommend Vegas. If you are just starting off or don't have the time to invest, pick another product.;

5.0 out of 5 stars Great program, not for beginners, September 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Vegas 4.0 (CD-ROM)
I am a Television production major and I work at a TV station editing commercials to pay for school. Between work and school I have used Adobe premier, Final Cut Pro 2,3,4, and various versions of Avid, Vegas is the only one that I have bought for my own use. Vegas takes the power of avid with a interface that is almost as simple as Final Cut. Unlike most programs in this price range it is possible to make broadcast grade projects using Vegas. It is also able to do a lot of things that would have normal taken after affects to do saving a lot of time.

Positives
Very powerful
Low price
Has a built in waveform monitor and vector scope. No more guessing if your colors are hot.

Negatives
This program is not for beginners, or for people that are only working with there home movies; it is actually a intro level professional product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Powerful Video Editor, June 21, 2004
This review is from: Vegas 4.0 (CD-ROM)
Sony Vegas 5 was something I didn't expect, I expected a more memory consuming version of Windows Movie Maker 2. But once I installed Vegas onto my system and ran it for the first time, I never realized how vibrant my movies could be. I had shot a movie and edited on Windows Movie Maker 2 a while back, and just today, I imported the original movie files into Vegas, and made a near similar cut, but I added split screens, opening titles, and the comic ending in just 10% it took to make the movie in Windows Movie Maker 2, and I didn't have split screen stuff like I did in Windows Movie Maker. And not only that, when you're done with your video, you can easily burn it to a video CD (If you want to burn it to DVD you need Sony Vegas + DVD), and the video quality alone is unbeatable. My Jaw dropped on my lap when I saw the price, but the test proves that Sony Vegas is the most professional video editor today, without the professional price tag. Vegas is worth...well it's priceless! Sony has hit gold. It will be a long time before Vegas goes out of style. Give it 20 years. It's that good.

This software allows the average user access to professional tools easily and quickly. A bit pricier than the consumer competition but well worth the additional investment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but..............hard to get use to, July 16, 2003
This review is from: Vegas 4.0 (CD-ROM)
I have vegas 4 and i gotta tell ya the things anoyin to get use to and how to know how to use stuf on this thing. This vegas is so complicated that you cant even find the dam button to split the video in half it took me about 7 days just to find it.Well heres my final review on the item.

The good:
1.Good editing, and alot of files to save as when your done like mpeg 1,mpeg 2 etc.)
2.I liked the fact how you can have text fly on screen with different text styles and different transtions.

3.Alot of transtions to choose from you can have 35 switchs and fade black out and stuff like that.
4.You can make atleast 7 little videos on one screen at once!

The bad:
1.It takes about a week to get use to to know how to use it.
2.Im not shure but when you have text on the video it has to fade all the time.
3.Takes a long long time to save a movie, like i made a video that was 3 mintues it took like 35 mintues.

Well thats what i think of vegas 4 Peace out!!!!
