4.0 out of 5 stars look for version 6 now out, April 20, 2005

Excellent software, very stable. Version 6 is now out, on the +DVD side, it's now version 3. The newer version fixes my only quibble with the software, it adds support for project playlists so you can put your video on the DVD and do scene selection menus without copying it on again.

I was raised on Premiere and eventually decided that editing was not for me. I did wedding videos for quite a while and used Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop. Something always got lost in the translation I could spot a project that was done in Premiere whether it was my own or not. Then I tried Final Cut Pro but I got the same feeling from it as I did from Premiere. It just seemed like I could never get anything done because I was always importing and exporting and rendering. The quality from Final Cut Pro was better but still so time consuming. Both programs also were somewhat unstable, escpecially Premiere. My creative ideas would change standards because I couldn't make it happen in a timely way. I eventually quit doing wedding videos because it was too much work and I refused to do cookie cutter projects. There are extra steps in both of these programs that are just not necessary. When I tried Sony Vegas I didn't like it at first because it was a different workflow. I quickly grew to love it however and have since become a hungry editor. My quality of work shot up, my love of editing shot up, and I landed a job editing in Premiere Pro, again I tried to get used to it and tried to adapt but I couldn't go back. I bought another copy of the program just for work and quickly switched over. As my career has changed and my needs have grown I have discovered that Vegas is always deep enough to do what I want to do. I still am finding amazing things out about it today. The tools are sooo smart. You will see this as you get into the intricacies of the program. I have found some minor flaws but there are ways around those with project nesting available in version 6. The codecs and the render options are advanced and clean. I can't recommend it enough, it has been the single most exciting thing for creating mulitmedia I have discovered. I never have to use after effects anymore. My productivity and creativity have freed up so much that I can come home from a long day of editing and sit down and edit my peronal stuff too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great software., August 25, 2005
This review is from: Sony Vegas + DVD (CD-ROM)
This software is great!! I have tried other software for making DVDs. They seem to require a Pentium 6 4000 MHz to run (note the exaggeration). But that is the way it seems or you won't get a good burn on your DVD. I only have a AMD Atlon 1GHz with 384 MB memory and it works great.

This software is very easy to use and just plain fun. you can add a "scene selection" menu with the click of the mouse. Literally.

You can also add audio tracks to the main selection menu. The preview boxes on the menu can also show tiny clips of the video. And even control how much of the video the tiny clip plays, where it starts, whether it loops or not, etc.

Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This program is a editors dream come true., December 23, 2005

I've only been playing around with computer based video editing for the last six months, but have found the learning curve long and difficult with all of the programs out-there. That was until I came accross vegas.

Vegas has a clean user interface, that you can adjust to suit your desktop. Sequencing videos has never been easier as all you have to do is open a video, and drop it onto the desired area on the time bar. Fades and transisions can be added very easily with drag and drop simplicity. Above all, that killer of a thing that can destroy any interest a person has in this hobby; RENDERING, which took 15 to 20 hours on other programs, only took 20 minutes-i'm serious :) :) After loosing interest in video editing, because of this rendering nightmare, vegas has resurrected my video talent, and now I'm hotter then hollywood :) :) rather more, it's my imagination that's working overtime, rather then my anxiety.

I learned this package within a few days. It took me three hours to drop all my videos in, preview, then render and burn to DVD. This would take a week on another program. I couldn't be bothered with cyberlink, ulead, and all those others, as they are so difficult, or to basic. I loaded it onto a Dell desktop 3.40 gig with 512 Meg Memory, and it's working like a dream.
