Great Walkman for it's price,
By William De Falco (Kyle, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony WMFS420 Cassette Walkman (Electronics)
This was the first real expensive that I've bought, and I was ready to tear into it with analizations. What I found was a pretty good Walkman for its price. First of all is its waterproof status. This is absolutely necessary if you're like me and travel outside alot. The auto-reverse is also another great thing about it. You can listen to a tape over and over without ever having to open the cassette holder, which snaps the tape into place so you never have to worry about it falling out. The anti-rolling mechanism allows you to move around without having the tape sound distorted. The metal tape ability also allows you to use several different types of tapes whenever you want to. Another useful thing, compared to other Sony Walkmans, was the fact that this time the belt clip is ON the Walkman and not on some leather cover case. This one doesn't come with a cover case, but then again it doesn't to since it's water proof. 30 preset stations is about 15 more than most Walkmans come with, which are very easy to set. Mega-Bass allows hard blowing sounds provided you have a good headphone system. About the only thing I found a flaw in was the headphone system it came with. Very uncomfortable to handle, and I quickly got some other earphones. It even has a unique little system where you pull out a rubber stub in the walkman to let out air pressure in case you ever travel to higher altitudes! And to top it off, besides having a belt clip, it even comes with a wrist strap in case you don't want to use the belt clip and would rather decide to have it strapped on your arm or hand. As you can see, a lot of good things came with this Walkman. In case you ever decide to move up to the more expensive Walkmans like I did, this one is a good place to start off with. I highly recommend it.

I was in need of something to use to listen to music while i worked out. I didnt really want a portable cd played because they are to bulky and cannot take as much punishment as a tape player. there are many of these tape players to choose from, all of the so called "sport one". This one has it ALL. the main component i needed was the belt clip, but this one also has a little hand carrier thing that is adjustable. another feature i really like is the volume adjuster. it is a very rigid dial and only turns when you want it to. the digital tuner with 30 presets is also very useful. i think the mega bass works very well also. another must for me was the locking tape clip. when i am in the weight room it usually takes a light beating but never stops playing. the waterproof is also helpful in that my walkman is usually a little drenched in sweat after a few hours working out. just to sum it up, i bought this to lift weights with, and it works perfect for it, but now i use it while riding a bike, running, cutting the grass, at school, and while cleaning the house. if this sounds like things you do, definitely spring for this one. its worth it

I haven't had a portable tape player in probably 20 years. I only have one tape. I just picked up the Sony WM-FS420 Sports Walkman from a local thrift store for $5.95. I bought it as nostalgia, as it's appearance looks practically new. I put two new AA batteries in it and plugged into my modern computer speakers and was amazed! It works great. The sound boost to "normal" and Mega Bass give it an impressive sound. It is constructed extremely durable, as I mentioned it was found at thrift store. The design is better than any I would have ever owned. The case opens from the side and flips back the top to put the tape in. The batteries go under tape. Genious design. The radio works great too. There are at least 5 presets, easy to do. I just wanted throw in my two cents about this product. If you are in need of a quality tape player, than I have to recommend this one, but good luck finding another for $6. ;)
