I love it,

Fantastic little mp3 player! It's got all the bells and whistles. Everything from an FM radio to voice recorder to mp3s (of course), this little device can handle it all. It's sleek and stylish and the blinking red lights just plain look cool. Also, unlike past Sony mp3 players that require you to use SonicStage, you don't have to use it for this. It's all drag and drop, and also, it's compatible with the PS3! One thing I didn't particularly like is that you have to charge the battery via USB. If you can't find a computer or PS3 anywhere, you're screwed. Luckily though, they do sell USB power adapters out there, you just have to look. I've gone through an iPod nano, iriver t10, and sandisk sansa. So far, the Sony one is my absolute favorite. Get it, you won't regret it!

Could be perfect with a few changes,

I bought this player to replace my samsung yp-u3j, which I loved, but it was just getting old and I was hard on it. My biggest requirements for a new player were: direct USB connection, quick charge, works on a PC and Mac, the headphone jack is on the end, and doesn't require 3rd party software to run it. This Walkman meets all the requirements fantastically. Great sound, nice little bells and whistles - and both PC and Macs easily recognize it without issue (it pops right up immediately, unlike the Samsung).
I listen to a TON of podcasts, so many tracks are 30 minutes or more long. Here are some improvements they could make: - You can't change the rate of rewind or fast forward, and it's agonizingly slow on the Walkman. Fix it, Sony! - If your track is paused, and you try to skip ahead in a track by holding the FF button down, it will only skip to the next track. Frustrating! - If you are listening to a track (say 25 minutes into a 60 minute podcast) and you plug it into a computer to recharge, it resets the Walkman and doesn't remember where you were. And add that on top of the slow fast forward/rewind.... ARRRRGGGGHHH!!! - If you move files around in a Mac, and then use a PC, you can't delete folders in the PC. You have to go BACK to the Mac, delete the folders, and then you're set. If you use strictly a Mac or strictly a PC, then it's not an issue. Other than than, I'm very happy with the player and would consider purchasing another down the road if I needed to. The cons are minor inconviences... don't let that stop you from buying this little gem! (Watch for sales though... I got mine for $40...)

Great Little MP3 Player,

I have owned this little player for a week and so far am quite happy with it. I wanted a cheap (under $50) player that would allow me to carry tunes from computer to computer and would be good for running. This stylish gadget fits the bill. Unlike previous releases from Sony, you don't have to use their software (SonicStage) to use it. This is completely drag and drop; managing your music is as easy as managing files and folders. I use it with Windows Media Player and have had no problems. On feature I love is the quick charge, which will give you 90 minutes of play time for a three minute charge (I actually got over two hours from a three minute charge). It is also nice that it plugs right into your USB port with no need for a cord; that is true portability.
The one complaint (if you could call it that) I had is with the headphones. As with most earbuds that come with players these were subpar and bulky, they hurt my ears. I fixed that problem by investing in some Sony Mdr-Ex32Lp Earbuds Headphones. And now, I am perfectly happy with my set-up.

More Positive than Negative,
This review is from: Sony 2 GB Walkman MP3 Player (Black) (Electronics)
I once had a 20gb Ipod, for which I spent maybe $300-350. It broke in a year and a half, and repairing it would have cost just as much as buying a new Ipod.
So rather than going back to Apple, I decided to buy this mp3 player. While it's smaller than an Ipod shuffle (and you actually have a small screen) (a huge positive), the headphones were poorly produced (if not broken). The chord for the left ear plug is roughly an inch long, while the other chord is 4-5 inches in length so that it's very uncomfortable to wear (and I'm now using different headphones). Another problem is that the mp3 player does not read certain file formats, such as .mp4 (typical for Apple) and .wmv sound files. Alas! I will have to go through the process again of ripping my cds onto my hard drive in .mp3, not .mp4. So those of you who are iPod users, beware that you won't be able to use iTunes to upload music into this player...but, if anything, we should blame Apple for using that file format over .mp3.

Nice and small, poor FM reception,
By
This review is from: Sony 2 GB Walkman MP3 Player (Red) (Electronics)
The unit is only slightly bigger than a standard jump drive and has a FM radio which is just what I wanted. It was easy to use right out of the box. The included earphones are rinky-dink, but with better ear phones the sound quality is good. The FM radio fades in and out in volume - can't figure out what causes that yet.
The most annoying feature is that the power button gets turned on inadvertently very easily, like in a backpack, using up the battery.

As a child & teenager, i'd always gone to Sony for my portable music needs, whether it be the original 80's Walkman radio, the updated walkman cassette player, the Sports walkman, and ultimately, the portable CD player.
Sony always seemed to have superior sound, durability & their trademark 'Mega-Bass' feature, which always enhanced the already superior sound quality. As technology advanced, and the convienence & portability of the mp3 generation took hold, i found myself drifting back & forth between ipod's & creative Labs players. I was hardly a fan of iTunes & Apple, in general, so the iPod's left me cold & usually frustrated when attempting to load & delete music. The Creative Lab players afforded me the ease of "drop & drag" via windows media, but their durability left a lot to be desired. Needless to say, i had countless Creative Labs players die on me, without rhyme or reason. Frustrated, i went to Sony & this model in particular. I simply wanted a shuffle style player, with decent sound, windows compatibility, and a radio function. Basically, an mp3 player that could keep me entertained to & from work, and walks about the city. Once again, Sony has delivered on all counts. From the connected USB, to the instant transfer of music via windows media, to the amazing sound, to the overall construction of the unit. It shouldn't have been surprising, considering my positive history with Sony, in general, but i was. The player is small, but laid out well for instictively finding the various buttons & controls. It charges quickly via your laptop or desktop, and it stays charged an extended period of time, in comparison to other players. Overall, i've gotta recommend this player. I only wished i'd saved money & headaches, by purchasing one sooner!

You cannot go wrong with this little player. So easy to download from Windows Media all your favorite songs then set back and be amazed. The earphones that come with it are good but if you want to be blown away get a set of Skullcandy Inked phones. The music is so live performance and the bass quivers your brain (feels that way at least). I heard sounds from my tracks that I never knew were there. There is a bass boost but it cancels out the equalizer if you use it. Trust me you don't even need it. Just set up the equalizer like you want it and let it go!!! It rivals my terribly expensive homr theater system......no, to be truthful it outplays my system that I paid so much for. Buy it!! You won't be sorry.!!!

This is a great and convenient little mp3 player for working out or for music on the fly. I would have given it 5 starts except for two issues, 1)it does not come with a clip; which would be most useful for active sports and 2)the cost, considering that the device itself is nothing more than a usb drive on steroids, I think it should priced close to $30.
Pros: -downloads are so easy even a caveman.... -small and compact -audio and volume

It's really cute and its a Sony. My son has one and it even survived being mashine washed, so I know it will be around for a while. Sound is great, very clear. Battery life is awesome. Easy of transfering music leaves A LOT to be desired. I download songs through I Tunes, I have to save them onto a CD and then save the music from the CD on my computer before I can transfer them onto the MP3. The device says its compatible Jukebox but I had no luck. It's a real pain. Just thinking about the process makes me weary of downloading more music!

I have a 30GB ipod video, it was a bit bulky to take to the gym each time.
I decided to buy a small player with enough capacity to take my up-beat music. I was astonished by the sound quality, its better that the ipod, after all its a Sony Walkman. |
