5.0 out of 5 stars DVI with no B's please!
I am running two of these monitors as dual screens while I write software. My eyes are no longer sore at the end of the day. Excellent text rendering and bright screens make this monitor a pleasure to use.

Pros:
1) 1280x1024 at it's finest.
2) Stylish black monitor will make you the envy of all computer geeks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Be SURE that you realize the HS95*B* is not the same as the HS95*P*
I ordered this monitor thinking this was the same monitor as the Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/S, but in a different color (all black). Big mistake--had to return it. I suppose the $100 price difference should have tipped me off--but Sony really should have made the model numbers a bit more unique on these. 5.0 out of 5 stars DVI with no B's please!, December 15, 2005
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)

3) Dual inputs! Hook that second computer up and switch to the RGB input when you want to see a stylish screensaver or something.

Cons:
1) Make sure you lower the refresh rate to 60hz on your videocard before connecting this monitor. Otherwise you not get a display.
2) Glare near windows is a little annoying. Can be fixed by blocking any sunlight. :(
3) RGB input can sometimes cause a vertical refresh line to dance acroos the screen.
4) No gaming here, the monitor has difficulty rendering similar shades of color.

Note: I almost bought a B as well and returned it, look carefully at what you are buying, P only!

3.0 out of 5 stars Be SURE that you realize the HS95*B* is not the same as the HS95*P*, November 21, 2005

This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
The *B* model has a lower brightness capability and *no glossy screen* (the primary selling point of these monitors). It also has a slower refresh rate. Pay careful attention to the different specs on these two monitors--AND AMAZON'S TECHNICAL SPECS ON THIS VERSION ARE INCORRECT. Check out the Sony site and compare the two. The refresh rate on this is 16ms, not 12ms as the reviewer below stated. The brightness is 250 not 400. There's really nothing special at all about the *B* version. It's a garden variety consumer monitor dressed up, and that's it. It's like a base model luxury car that just *looks* like the high-performance version.

I don't understand the "B" model--it seems close to "bait and switch" to me. The specs for this monitor at the price simply don't make it a good value. On the other hand, the "P" is about as good a monitor as you can get in the $500 range. To get a better monitor than the SDM-HS95*P*, you have to spend $900-$1000 and go to a LaCie 321 or something.

Just be sure you know what you're buying...

5.0 out of 5 stars very cool, June 5, 2005
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I liked this monitor so much that I bought two. I have always had picky eyes and always wanted an LCD on my desktop but could never deal with the image quality. Then this monitor came along, very bright, colorful image that no one can be unhappy with. When I first saw this monitor in the store I could not believe it was an LCD because of how bright the image is. This along with the neat tilt design makes the monitor outstanding.

One word of caution however, I had to replace one because of a dead pixel so make you sure you have the option to return within 30 days if defective. Also keep in mind that it has a fixed height so if you¡¦re over 6 foot 7 this monitor might not be for you ƒº

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine monitor for text and graphics, January 15, 2006

This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I chose this monitor after reading a PCmag review of top 10 19" flat panels. Though this was not the top rated monitor, the review accredited the Sony as the best for use with both text and graphics. My use of the monitor for editing and image manipulation has proven to me that the PCmag review was true to the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic monitor, but...., August 27, 2005
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)

I'm a web/graphic designer so a quality monitor is important to me, and after I saw this monitor, I had to have it. It was the best I'd ever seen, and it didn't cost much more than a low end monitor. The images were so crisp and crystal clear. Now that I've purchased it, however, I've had a terrible time trying to adequately callibrate it. I've been tweaking it for two days, and I'm still not 100% satisfied with the way it's displaying. The screen seems too bright no matter what and images are overly sharp to the point of blurring. In addition, the buttons for changing the settings are clumsy and difficult to use. I'm sure that once I finally get it set correctly, that I'll enjoy using this monitor. But right now, I miss the Gateway flat panel that I've used for several years. I never had a problem callibrating my previous monitor.

I suggest that you look at this monitor in the store before you buy it and compare it to others. Also if you work in a very well lit area, this may not be the monitor for you as the room lighting affects the reflective qualities of this monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD monitor, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
The monitor came out of the box and played beautifully. Sony supplies both a VGA 15 pin cable and a DVI cable. It is a great bright display. Was bought to use as a second display on my laptop while at my desk. Excellent graphics and text. Since the price was reduced recently by $100, plus the $100 rebate, I think it is definitely worth the small extra premium over less capable 19" LCD monitors.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this monitor b/c in it's size and class it was very competitively priced with a $100 off coupon (expired 1/1/060). When it arrived, there were 3+ pixels that were dead. Another, right in the middle of the screen, had only green functioning. After a little web searching I found others had the same problem. Sony's web site even says a number of dead pixels is normal and you won't notice them after awhile! I wrote Amazon, who immediately placed another monitor in FedEx (...)Unfortunately, the replacement has 1 dead pixel. It's in a corner though. I looked around at other monitors but eventually decided that the Sony's brightness and color correctness (good calibration was easy to achieve) made it a very good monitor for the price (even with a dead pixel). Of course, it was already on hooked up and on my desk- convenience was certainly a factor.
In the end, if you can find this monitor (...)it's a pretty good deal but this will make me seriously think again about purchasing a Sony monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best LCD, April 23, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
The HS95P is the clearest LCD monitor I have inspected. After visiting many retail stores and looking over the various models, I decided this one was superior over anything else. The style also looks great on my desk and does not look like the rest. It is simple to set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the extra money, December 13, 2006
By
This review is from: Sony X-Brite SDM-HS95P/B 19" LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
The bottom line up front: it's worth the extra cash. If you choose to buy this monitor, you will not be sorry. You will notice the high quality and sharp picture within a minute of opening the box. This monitor has that luxury, elite feel to it; you know what I'm talking about. Everyone that sits at my computer comments on how sharp the picture is and how much they like the monitor overall. I play games on the monitor and notice no ghosting. I would buy this monitor again if this one broke.
